A. Introduction
This document contains instructions to help you install the appropriate printer drivers
so that you will be able to print your documents via the IT Services Wireless Network.
Apart from installing the appropriate printer driver,
purchase printing credits on line by accessing the link:

B. Downloading the Printer Drivers
1. Access the link: http://www.um.edu.mt/itservices/print
2. Click the appropriate printer driver depending on the location of the printer
Depending on the I nternet browser used (Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet
Explorer, Google Chrome etc.), a dialog box will be displayed.

Click the Save File button. A downloads window is displayed when downloading
starts.
4. Double-click the .exe file. The following warning message is displayed.

5. Click the Run button. The window below is displayed.
6. In the Destination folder field, type C:\temp.
7. Click the Install button. The printer driver has n o w been downloaded on your
computer in ‘ C:\temp’. You may now proceed with installing the driver.
C. Installing the Printer Driver
1. Click the Start button.
2. Click Devices and Printers. The Devices and Printers window below is
displayed.

3. Click Add a printer. This opens the Add Printer window displayed below.
4. Click Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer. Another Add Printer
window is displayed as shown below.

Click the Next button. The Configure Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor dialog
box below is displayed.

8. Click OK. The Enter Network Password dialog box is displayed.
9. In the User Name field, type csc\username, where username is your UoM IT
Account username, for example: csc\mfar10.
10. In the Password field, type in your password.
11. Click the OK button.
12. The Add Printer dialog box below is displayed.

13. Click Next. The dialog box below is displayed.
14. Click the Finish button. The printer driver has now been installed.
D. Setting up Printer for the first time
A4 printing settings have to be set in order to be able to print. You can
enable A4 printing settings on your printer driver as follows:
1. Click the Start button.
2. Click Devices and Printers . The window below is displayed.

3. Right-click the printer driver which will be used for A4 printing, for example:
Colour IT Services Open Access 001 A4 & A3 on print-sp-srv.csc.net.mt
4. Click Printing Preferences. The dialog box below is displayed. Note that the
layout of this box may vary depending on the printer selected.
5. The Paper size field should be set to A4. Click OK.
6. It is recommended that if A3 printing is required, this is set from within your
application (eg. Microsoft Word) rather than from here. Setting A3 printing from
Printing Preferences will set A3 as the default paper size on your laptop. A3
printing is possible on both B&W and Colour printers.

E. Duplex Printing
You can also print on both sides of the paper over Wi-Fi. Double-sided, or duplex
printing, conserves paper and is cheaper than single-sided printing. IT Services
encourages all users to opt for duplex printing when appropriate. Duplex printing is not
available for colour and A3 printing.
Duplex printing needs to be enabled on your printer driver to print on both sides of the
paper.
1. Click the Start button.
2. Click Devices and Printers. The window below is displayed.
3.
Right-click the printer driver which will be used for duplex printing, for example:

4. Click Printer Properties. The dialog box below is displayed. Note that the layout of
the dialog box may vary depending on the printer selected.

The Duplex Unit (for 2-Sided Printing) needs to be set to Installed. If not, click
on Not Installed and select Installed from the drop down list.

Click OK.

F. Black & White Printing
If a colour printer has been installed, B&W printing can be set on that printer. It should
be noted that B&W printing is charged at colour printing rates when done
through a colour printer.
1.
Click the Start button.
2.
Click Devices and Printers. The window below is displayed.
3.
Right-click the printer driver which will be used for B&W printing, for example:

4.
Click Printer Preferences. The Preferences dialog box is displayed. Note that this
dialog box may vary depending on the printer selected.
5.
Click the Color tab.
6.
Tick the Print in Grayscale option.
7.
Click OK.
The printer driver has now been set to default Black & White printing. It is recommended
that a B&W printer is installed on the laptop for Black & White printing. Follow the
instructions in Section C of this guide to install a new printer.
