faculty by changing staffing level from 29%

respectively
GOAL #2: Assist majors in achieving academic
excellence while at Cabrillo to facilitate their
transition to universities.

We are still working to develop a streamlined process to
identify Soc majors because not all of them are declared Soc
majors while at Cabrillo.
We have also taken students who plan to major in Sociology
to the annual meeting of the Pacific Sociological Association,
giving them the opportunity to familiarize themselves with
professional conferences.
GOAL #3: Increase student engagement with
class material by encouraging students to see
the real world applicability of course content.
X
We have expanded our guest speaker pool to include class
visitors from community groups such as Barrios Unidos and
the Inside/Out Writing Project based in the Santa Cruz County
Jail. We have also established a working relationship with a
local NGO called Firelight Foundation which works in Africa on
HIV/AIDS issues. We plan to increase the number of speakers
from local organizations.
We also participated in the 4th Grade Experience by recruiting
students to assist with the design and delivery of sessions on

SLO Assessment Progress: In a sentence or two, describe where your department should be on the Revolving Wheel of Assessment (what
assessment you should have done in the last year) and what was actually done. If you’re not sure where you should be on the Revolving
Wheel contact the SLO Coordinator (x6366). If any task was not completed, explain why.
We submitted our Program Plan Spring 2012. We decided to start with the Core Four before doing Course SLO assessments. However, we did
fall off the Wheel in the FA12 semester. We did get back on the Wheel in SP13. So in the 12-13 school year, we assessed Core Four #1:
Communication. We collected the individual assessments in May and compiled the program assessment during Fall 2013 Flex.
We are back on track. All faculty have submitted indi assessments from the FA13 term for Critical Thinking as of the submission date of this
update so we are ready to compile a dept analysis Spring 14 flex and will do indi assessments of Global Awareness during the SP14 term.
Fill out the Assessment Results section below.
