Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the Post of Director of
the Marketing, Communications, and Alumni Relations Office of the University of Malta.
The Director of the Marketing, Communications, and Alumni Relations will have the overall
responsibility of the University’s Marketing, Communications, and Alumni Office and will implement
the University’s Communication policy through the planning, development, and execution of a detailed
Communication Strategy.
The Marketing, Communications, and Alumni Relations Office will strengthen links with graduates and
friends of the University. The Alumni Relations arm of the Office is responsible for building and
maintaining mutually beneficial contact between the University and its former students by involving
them in the University’s life and development.
Applicants must be in possession of a related first degree, together with a minimum of five years of
experience in a senior management role in marketing or communications in a large organisation. The
ideal candidate will have a proven track record, with an enterprising and innovative approach to
marketing and communications and have extensive experience in planning communications
campaigns. A postgraduate qualification and previous experience in the use of new media techniques
in marketing and communication campaigns will be considered an asset.
The post is offered on a four year definite contract, with the possibility of renewal.
The remuneration package will be offered dependent on qualifications and experience and will include
an annual allowance for Continuous Professional Development.

Further Information
The Director of the Marketing, Communications, and Alumni Relations Office will:











Assist the University Administration in managing the University’s corporate image;
Manage and supervise the staff of the Marketing, Communications, and Alumni Relations Office;
Manage the Events Team so as to assure smooth communications and good co-ordination of
campus activities;
Manage the Alumni Relations team;
Prepare communication plans for the University on an annual and ad hoc basis, as necessary;
Oversee the Office for Student Recruitment in its responsibilities for marketing courses for both
local and international students;
Maintain and further the University’s good links with local and relevant international media as well
as with outside institutions that support the University’s activities and research;
Be responsible for the co-ordination and promotion of the University’s cultural, social and sports
events;
Commission and supervise the production of information materials and newsletters, including
videography, that depict and popularise the life and major activities of the University;
Assist in the creation of a database of the research activities of academic staff with the aim of
disseminating this information through the University website and in printed publications for the
benefit of both a specialised audience and the general public;
Assist in the development of the University website with regard to both content and ‘look & feel’,
working in conjunction with IT Services;
The selected candidate will need to demonstrate proven experience of marketing, public relations and
communications. Tact, maturity, flexibility and creativity are essential requisites for this position.
The appointee is expected to work:
a. On a full-time basis, and will not be allowed to engage in any other gainful employment without the
permission of the Council; and
b. At such places and during such hours including outside typical office hours, evenings, weekends
and public holidays as may be determined by the University authorities.
The Selection Process:
The Selection process requires:
a. The scrutiny of qualifications and experience claimed and supported by testimonials and/or
certificates (copies to be included with the application).
b. Short-listing of candidates.
c. An invitation to short-listed candidates to a Selection Board interview.

In accordance with the guidelines, members of the Selection Board will establish the following
selection criteria for the selection process:

The appointment will be subject to a probationary period of twelve months and to the provisions of the
Statutes, Regulations and Bye-Laws of the University of Malta which are now or which may hereafter
be in force.
