Spelling Games and Tasks P5 (green bag) Hidden words Pocket Speller Spelling Battle Use your chalkboard and chalk to write out the word that your spelling partner* calls out. In a minute, see how many smaller words you can make using those letters. Play a variety of the games suggested in the pocket speller instructions. Mix your spelling words in with some really tricky words to test a partner. You must know how to spell the words yourself because if your partner makes a mistake you have to be able to spell it yourself to stay in the game. Spelling Muddle Hide and Seek Pictionary Take a handful of letter cards and see how many words you can make. Race your partner against the clock. Get your partner to choose some letter cards that spell a word and hide them round the room. Find the cards and put them in the correct order to spell the word. Swap over. Get your spelling partner to draw a picture on the chalkboard that gives a clue about your spelling word. Can you guess and spell it correctly? Mystery Words Sing and Spell Flick and Spell Get your partner to spell out the words using their finger on your back. You have to guess what the word is. Make up a song or rap to help you remember your trickiest spelling words. You might want to share this with your class. Use scrap paper to make a small flicker book. Write each letter of your word with your stencil on a different page of the book. Flick through the book to practise your spelling. *Your spelling partner is an adult or older child who is able to help you play your spelling games. Tick the task box each time you play that game.
