ROSES-15 Amendment 36: Release of Final text for Program Element A.6 Biodiversity Program element A.6 Biodiversity focuses on the distribution and abundance of biodiversity across its levels of organization: ecosystems, species, and genes, as well as how and why distribution and abundance are changing through time. Another focus is to increase knowledge of how biodiversity drives changes in the wider Earth System of which it is a part. NASA studies biodiversity and its change by combining observations from satellites, airborne platforms, and in situ sensors to explore biodiversity patterns in terrestrial, freshwater, and marine systems. Observations detect patterns of biodiversity relevant to its distribution and abundance. Developing understanding of the processes behind these patterns requires integration of observations across spatial and temporal scales coupled with the use of various types of models. This year the call seeks proposals for targeted scoping studies for potential biodiversity-related field campaigns and workshops on specific biodiversity topics. These scoping studies and workshops will provide guidance for the future of the Biodiversity program. When ROSES-2015 was released in February, Program element A.6 Biodiversity was "TBD" and the notice indicated that it might be solicited depending on the availability of funding. This Amendment announces the release of final text for Biodiversity. Notices of Intent (NOIs) to propose are requested by January 15, 2016, and proposals are due by March 18, 2016. On or about December 17, 2015, this Amendment to the NASA Research Announcement "Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) 2015" (NNH15ZDA001N) will be posted on the NASA research opportunity homepage at http://nspires.nasaprs.com/ and will appear on the RSS feed at: http://nasascience.nasa.gov/researchers/sara/grantsolicitations/roses-2015 Questions concerning this program element may be directed to: Woody Turner at woody.turner@nasa.gov.
