Our Learners’ Journeys: Kim When it came to S4 I was fairly certain of the subjects I wanted to continue with and chose: English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Design & Manufacture and Engineering. I have been the only girl in the Engineering class and one of only a few in the Design & Manufacture class. This has never been a concern for me as I find it easy to talk to others and am happy working with others or on my own. I plan to continue my studies in Chemistry, Physics and Engineering and if I am successful I would like to go to university to study Engineering. I haven’t chosen a particular type of Engineering or a specific career. We are learning a lot from our first year of implementing the senior phase and are planning some big changes There are important opportunities that we now think we are ready to seize. We have done two challenges, both of which lasted three days. The first was making cupcakes and selling them to raise money for Aberlour Trust. Our second was a three day thing. People from companies came into school and helped us to make a presentation about what we wanted to do when we leave. We got treated like we were in a workplace, the main rules were “trust and respect”. The course is very enjoyable and it has given all of us a major insight into what the difference are between school and work.” Skills for Work Our Learners’ Journeys: Craig “Energy is a Skills for Work course which is usually delivered in college. Luckily I was able to take the course in school at Intermediate 2 level. We have been studying topics like renewable energy and the effects of pollution. I enjoy the fact that we get to do a lot of group work and we get lots of practical experiences e.g. building a wind turbine. The course provides a great opportunity if you are looking for an apprenticeship when you leave school as it gives you extra knowledge which you might need for an apprenticeship.“ Structured opportunities for students to reflect on learning A mechanism for communicating this Moving away from traditional reporting systems??? I am hoping to move away from home next year (to study Law in Glasgow). A lot of the information I found out I would not have known if I had not researched it. It definitely makes you feel more confident knowing it. I hope that other people feel the same—that they feel more confident and clued up about the future. I hope that everyone is more motivated to find out about the laws which affect them. My research did not surprise me. Most people lack awareness of the kinds of issues which will affect them. I am trying to provide something simple that can help. In the language of business - is a business plan
