CfE Implementation e-bulletin, June 2015

Welcome to the June edition of the CfE

Implementation e-bulletin, the last before the summer break.

It has been another busy but very productive year for everyone involved in education.

Throughout this past year, we’ve developed a range of support material from SQA, Education Scotland, Scottish

Government and other national bodies.

Alongside the materials developed at local levels, I am delighted that together we have built such a strong, comprehensive and valuable national package of materials.

Looking to the future, we will continue to build on the strong partnerships and will keep you up to date with news of resources and events being planned to enhance our package of support.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a lovely summer and hope you all enjoy a well-deserved break.

Standards for Work Placement and Careers Guidance - Have your Say

Meaningful and productive school employer partnerships are key to

Developing the Young Workforce. To support this, overarching guidance on school employer partnerships is currently being developed by Scottish Government with Education Scotland and a wide range of partners. This will be underpinned by detailed standards and support materials on areas of work related learning where employers have a role to play.

The new standards for Careers Education and Learning and Work

Placements are the first of these materials to be developed and we are looking for your views on the work done so far.

Both sets of standards have been co-created with a range of partners from inception and children and young people have been at the very centre of development. Over 300 young people have been involved in producing the documents so far. They have shaped the design, tested the language and rationale, and endorsed the latest version of the work placements standard.

Working drafts of both documents, together with a short survey, are now available on the Education Scotland website and we would really appreciate your feedback. The survey will close on 3 July 2015.

Together with the guidance on school employer partnerships, the two standards will be available for use by partners and practitioners from

September 2015. This will be followed by an 18 month period when these materials can be tested in use. There will be a review of progress on implementation in March 2017, when these materials will be revisited in the light of experience.

It has been developed with practitioners in mind to make it an accessible and user-friendly resource where they can share their work with colleagues from across Scotland, as well as develop their own learning and teaching practice. Please note you’ll require your Glow
