Energy Conservation Net Zero energy use thru energy management and a 30.6 kilowatt solar array. Geothermal Heating and Cooling reduces load on fossil fuel usage. Manufacture ice during the night while temperatures are low, to reduce daytime energy demand during peak cooling times. Indoor holding spaces for animals are naturally lit with solar tubes providing a healthier environment and at the same time reducing our energy load. The Painted Dog Holding Building is partially buried in ground and has a 3’ deep roof planter reducing heating and cooling loads. Water Reclamation A 400,000 gallon underground detention tank collects water from 17 acres. All water is stored, filtered and distributed to other parts of the zoo. Zero water leaves the site. Recycled water is used for back washing the Hippo filtration system thus reducing the load on local sewer systems. The Painted Dog Exhibits has Net Zero water use thru water management and an on-site water treatment system. AFRICA Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden
