Stories of Strength: First-Person Films by Community Activists showcases short digital
films by Washingtonians looking back on their activism during the period 1963-1975 -- "The
Years That Shook and Shaped Washington," in partnership with the Smithsonian Anacostia
Community Museum, along with stories of Central American immigrants who rebuilt their
lives with the help of Ayuda, a social-service organization. All digital films in collaboration with the students of Prof. Nina ShapiroPerl's Community Documentary course.

CHAPLAINS is a new 75-minute documentary film that takes the viewer into the dynamic
world of chaplains –men and women who represent their own particular faith tradition but
are trained to be of comfort and support to everyone – religious or not.

SHOUT GLADI GLADI is narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Meryl
Streep; produced and directed by Adam Friedman, SOC/BA’79. Filmed in Malawi
and Sierra Leone, the film spotlights the quest of Ann Gloag, the indefatigable
philanthropist and former nurse, driving the movement to save African women and girls from obstetric fistula, a
medical condition that can turn these vulnerable women into reviled outcasts. The film presents these patients as they
tell stirring tales of their struggles and triumphs -- culminating with the exuberant Gladi Gladi ceremony, a singing

FRONTLINE: TROUBLE WITH CHICKEN

poultry - and why the food-safety system isn't stopping the threat. Focusing on an
outbreak of salmonella Heidelberg at one of the nation's largest poultry processors,
the documentary reveals how contaminants are evading regulators and causing more
severe illnesses as Americans consume more chicken than ever.

WAR ON WHISTLEBLOWERS

War on Whistleblowers highlights the stories of four whistleblowers who noticed government
wrongdoing and turned to the media to expose the abuse they discovered. In addition to their
personal accounts, the film includes interviews with journalists and legal experts sharing their
knowledge of the challenges whistleblowers face today.

detailing the aspirations of four young Afghan women and law students,
Arghawan, Duniya, Nabila, and Rohila, as they train to compete in the
prestigious international commercial law competition, the Vis Moot.
Afghan Dreams is a story of triumph, fulfilled aspirations and redefining
what it means to be a woman in Afghanistan.
