Cleveland Elementary School Uniform Policy The school uniform policy is designed to provide students with the safest and most orderly learning environment possible. The school uniform will be worn every day, all day. This includes field trips. Events to which uniforms will not be required will be specifically announced. There are additional dress code items in place in the Student Code of Conduct. Uniform Bottom Wear: • Color choices: Solid Navy Blue, Solid Black or Solid Khaki • Boys may wear slacks and shorts. • Girls may wear slacks, capris, shorts, jumpers, dresses, skirts and skorts. • Note: Polo style uniform dresses may be in any solid color. • Bottom wear should be appropriately sized and worn at the waistline. A belt must be worn if pants are not appropriately sized. • All bottom wear must be appropriately worn in length. A good rule of thumb is for the bottom wear to measure several inches below the fingertips. • No sag and drag or holes / All items must be hemmed. • No denim, knit, sweat, cargo, or corduroy bottom wear. • No writing, logos, rivets (round silver or gold piece at pockets of garment), labels, sequins or decorations on bottom wear. • No side pockets on bottom wear. • Leggings must be solid colors. Uniform Shirts: • Color choices: Any Solid Color • Shirts must have a collar (polo style or button up shirts) • The only logo permitted is Cleveland Elementary or Cleveland Eagles. • Shirts must be appropriately sized for neat appearance. • Shirts must be tucked neatly. (except for kindergarteners) • Short sleeves and long sleeves are permitted. Undershirts: • Undershirts worn must be either a solid t-shirt or solid turtleneck with no logos. • Short and long sleeves are permitted. • Undershirts must be tucked in. Sweatshirts, Cardigans and Sweaters: • Color Choices: Any solid colors • The only logo permitted is Cleveland Eagles or Cleveland Elementary. • Must be appropriately sized. • Uniform collar must be worn outside the top shirt. • Sweatshirts should be crewneck and non-hooded and non-zippered. Coats and Jackets: • Must be hung up immediately upon arrival at school. Cleveland Elementary School Uniform Policy • Solid thin zip up jackets can be worn as needed since all room temperatures are not the same. Shoes: • Closed toed and closed heel shoes must be worn. • Shoes with laces must have the strings laced and tied securely. Jewelry: • Cannot be distractive. Socks/Tights: • Socks must be solid colors and matched. • Tights must be solid colors. Headwear: • Bandanas, hats, doo rags, stretch wraps, scarves, combs and picks are inappropriate for campus wear and will be confiscated. Note: Appropriate dress is determined by the principal or designee. Noncompliance: The following measures will be taken if a student comes to school without the appropriate uniform. 1. On the first offense, the student will be reminded of the uniform policy and a note of noncompliance will be stapled in the student’s agenda informing the parents that their child was out of uniform. 2. On the second offense, a parent/guardian will be contacted and asked to bring a change of clothing. 3. After two violations, a conference will be scheduled with parent/guardian to again explain the uniform policy so that the expectations and rationale are fully understood. 4. Further violations will result in school detention or suspension. All student discipline shall follow the Rowan-Salisbury Schools Code of Conduct. 5. Students coming to Cleveland from another school will be given a 3-day grace period. Uniform clothing may be purchased from any store as long as it complies with the uniform requirements.
