At the fifth regular meeting of the 2010-2011 academic year on March 23, 2011 (Conference Room,
Alumnae House), the following actions were taken by the Smith College faculty:

Engineering
a. Changes to the Major: Change statistics requirement from MTH 241 to MTH 241 or MTH
245
b. Changes to the Minor: The update includes modifications in course numbers and offerings that
have occurred in recent years since the adoption of a “tiered curriculum:”
i. EGR 100
ii. PHY 117
iii. One course from PHY 210, MTH 211, MTH212, MTH222, MTH 241, MTH 245,
EGR 110 (formerly 260), EGR 220, EGR 270, EGR 290
iv. One course from EGR 110 (formerly 260), EGR 220, EGR 270, EGR 290, EGR 320,
EGR 326, EGR 363, EGR 374, EGR 375
v. One course from EGR 312, EGR 315, EGR 320, EGR 325, EGR326, EGR 330,
EGR 333, EGR 340, EGR 346, EGR 363, EGR 372, EGR 373, EGR374, EGR375,
EGR 377, EGR 388, EGR389, EGR 390, EGR 410D and other 300 level EGR
courses as they are added
c. Changes in course prerequisites:
i. EGR 312 Atmospheric Processes: change in prerequisites to CHM111, EGR 110
(formerly 260), and EGR 374 (co-requisite) or permission of the instructor
ii. EGR 363 Mass and Heat Transfer: change in prerequisites to EGR 110 (formerly
EGR 260), EGR 290, and EGR 374 or permission of the instructor.
Dance
a. Changes to the Major:
i. To the description add “Students may substitute no more than one course from another
Department to fulfill a Dance Major requirement. Substitute courses must be
approved by the Dance Department Faculty.”
ii. Under Advanced Theory state “Students may count a total of only 4 credits in
Advanced Repertory toward the Major”
b. Change to the Minor: to the description add “No courses from another Department may
substitute for a Dance Minor requirement”
Art
a. Changes to the major for Art Plan C, Architecture: replace ARS 163 with ARS 162 or
ARS 163
b. ARS 364 Drawing III: change in prerequisites from ARS 163 to ARS 163 and ARS 264
BUX 120 Introduction to the Study of Buddhism; change from 2 credits to 1 credit
FYS 180 Cleopatra: Histories, Fictions, Fantasies changed from (E) to Permanent
