Combat Stress Conference – Registration Now Open!
A national conference focusing on the mental health needs of returning military
personnel and veterans is planned for this summer. Combat Stress: Understanding
the Challenges, Preparing for the Return has been scheduled for June 26, 27, & 28,
2008. While the deadline is June 13, 2008, registration is limited and expected to
reach capacity. For details go to

90th Anniversary Celebration – July 17 – 20, 2008
Save the date and plan on attending this special celebration! As plans continue
to evolve and details become available, you can view the latest information online at

mention Smith College and the 90th Celebration when booking your room. The online
registration form will be operational by March 10.
Continuing Education Summer Seminars 2008
Continuing Education Summer seminars are now online. Over 30 courses are being
offered in June and July. The Early Registration deadline is April 15, 2008.

Book Signing Event
If you are planning on attending the 90th Anniversary and have authored or edited a
book within the last five years, we invite you to participate in the alumni and faculty

Day – Garrett Award Nominations
We are seeking nominations for the annual Day-Garrett Awards. Your professional
contacts and affiliations in the field make you an ideal source of nominations for this
prestigious Smith College School for Social Work award. If you would like to submit a
nomination for the Committee’s consideration, please complete the on-line form
available at http://www.smith.edu/ssw/alumni/sswaa_awards.php. For questions or to

nominations is March 1, 2008.
Advanced Clinical Supervision Certificate Program
The Advanced Clinical Supervision Program provides an important professional resource
for social work supervisors interested in enhancing and advancing their work with
supervisees. For program and registration information about the July 2008 program go

Contemplative Clinical Practice: An Advanced Certificate Program in
Spirituality and Social Work Practice
Now in its second year, the Contemplative Clinical Practice Certificate deepens the
clinician’s awareness of the sacred dimension of his/her work by exploring his/her own
religious histories and spiritual practices, the clients’ spiritual beliefs and practices, and
the clinical relationship itself. For program and registration information go to:

Successful Faculty Search Completed
The School has just completed a faculty search and we are extremely happy to
announce that we are adding two new resident junior faculty to the practice sequence.
They are Annemarie Gockel, Ph.D. and Hye-Kyung Stella Kang, Ph.D. They will both
teach the foundation practice course and will serve as faculty field advisors. Please join
us in welcoming them to the community in 2008-2009.
