The Annette and Irwin Eskind Biomedical Library Synopsis The Eskind Biomedical Library (EBL) supports biomedical education and training at Vanderbilt University, and facilitates health information access by providing a comprehensive health sciences collection spanning 20,000 electronic resources, including full-text journals, textbooks, and key bibliographic databases (http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/diglib/). The EBL also provides reference and research services including ASK ELIS: (http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/diglib/services/request.html?type=elis), as well as individual, group, online, and interactive training on the use of biomedical literature, genetics databases such as OMIM, dbSNP, UniProt, and Gene, and bibliographic management and productivity tools (e.g. Endnote, Zotero, and Notability) (http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/diglib/services/request.html?type=training). Study rooms, carrels, casual seating spots, as well as the training room, are available for our VU and VUMC patrons’ regular use. Additionally, the training room is equipped with videoconferencing and instructor-led classroom workstation management capabilities. The facility is enhanced by both wired and wireless connectivity to the internet for use with any type of personal computing device. Available technology includes a MondoPad for collaboration and teleconferencing, a state-of-the-art 3-D printing lab, document scanning, desktop workstations, and laptops and iPads available for checkout. The Eskind Library’s Special Collections maintains a unique collection of rare books, manuscripts, photographs, archival materials, and other items documenting the history of medicine and the history of biomedical science education and practice at Vanderbilt University. The EBL provides online access to thousands of historical images from these collections, and it regularly hosts educational exhibits, lectures, and other events about the history of Vanderbilt and medicine.
