Most development and construction projects have the potential to harm the environment. This does not have to be the case, provided that adverse impacts are understood and can be mitigated. Services ASE ●● Rapid appraisals and heritage statements ●● Desk-based assessment ●● Documentary research ●● Environmental impact assessment ●● Environmental statement In order to conserve the best of the past whilst meeting the needs of the future we have to know what is worth keeping and why. This is where archaeological research can help, and it is for this reason that EC directives and the UK planning system can require the submission of Environmental Impact Assessments and deskbased archaeological surveys. This is not simply an exercise in meeting planning requirements. High quality information helps architects and planners to find better design solutions, and reduces the risk of unforeseen problems. A superficial survey can be a costly one if it fails to identify risk. Our Expertise Our in-depth understanding of the historic landscape is based on over fifty years of research. We have worked on surveys throughout the world, and specialise in southern England. We employ leading experts in all periods of history and pre-history, in planning law, topographic survey, geo-archaeology, cartographic and landscape research, archaeological prospection, palaeo-environmental research, and so on. Our specialists are deployed by a dedicated project management team, experienced in meeting the requirements of commercial clients, and used to working effectively within multi-disciplinary teams.
