Why work with Archaeology South-East?
Our Expertise
Buildings are a vital source of information about the past. Recording helps us to understand
the importance of a building, and provides a basis from
which informed decisions can be made about its future.
Archaeology South-East has a large team of building archaeologists, expert in a wide variety
of structures: from Second World War air raid shelters to
country house estates.
Many of our clients are owners of historic properties,
interested in understanding more about their homes.
Local planning authorities may require an assessment to
be submitted with an application for works (following
Planning Policy Guidance). Information is also needed
when applying for grant funding and in conservation
management plans.
The Senior Buildings Officer is David Martin FSA, IHBC,
MIFA. David is a Research Fellow of University College
London with over 30 years experience in studying historic
buildings. He has published many books on the subject.
This is where we help: we liaise with architects, builders
and conservation officers to inform the design process,
smoothing the path in applications for consent.
Archaeology South-East also offers a cost-effective
integrated service combining building recording with
below-ground archaeology.
Our building archaeologists are supported by professional
surveyors and illustrators, and work alongside specialists
in local history, field archaeology, environmental impact assessment, and site management
and interpretation.
Clients
Archaeology South-East works with English Heritage,
the National Trust, county and district councils,
development companies, architects, and numerous
private owners.
