BS, MS and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Prior to joining, Michigan Tech he worked at Sandia National Laboratories in the Combustion
Research Facility and for Motorola Automotive as a group manager for research and
development of powertrain technologies.

design capstone program and other undergraduate and graduate independent study and
research activities.
Brief description of research programs and funding and publications
(Candidate) has an active research program in the area of alternative energy, combustion, and
IC engines. He has published 25 papers in various journals and conference proceedings and
holds 13 patents. He currently operates four research laboratories focused on the investigation
of clean and efficient IC engines technologies. He is also working with other faculty to renovate
and construct the Alternative Energy Research Building which will house a number of new
laboratories and facilities focused on renewable energy and power generation. Sponsors of his
research program include: GM, Ford Motor, Cummins, John Deere, Motorola, Continental,
Dow, the State of Michigan, and the National Science Foundation. He is a former Science
Advisor Board member for Motorola, in 1988 he was the recipient of the SAE Horning Award
for the best paper in fuels and combustion, and this year he received the SAE Teetor Award for
engineering education. He has directed 6 MS students and is currently advising 4 PhD and 8 MS
students in research activities. His research contracts total to $2,500,000 and he consults on a
regular basis to industry and other activities.
Outreach, service to the profession
Professor Naber is the Chair for the Lubricants & Powertrain Systems Committee of SAE which
oversees a number of activities and sessions at three international conferences per year. In
addition he is an organizer and session chair for two yearly conferences for SAE meetings.
