Power Distribution Systems
Our engineers and designers can handle plant power
distribution systems from initial concept stage through
detail design and energization.

We implement protection schemes using the latest
state of the art microprocessor based protective relays
offering a higher degree of selectivity to increase the
overall reliability of the distribution system during power
systems disturbances.
We use the latest software analysis tools such as PTWSKM, EDSA and others to model the power system
behaviour on the utility side and on the plant side of the
distribution.
We do short circuit analysis, arc flash evaluations, load
flow analysis, harmonic mitigations, transient motor
starting, power factor and selective coordination.
We use these computerized tools to specify correctly
the switchgear, transformers, motors and drives which
will operate reliably for many years.
High operating power factor with harmonic mitigation
techniques, high load factor, high efficiency motors and
drives are attributes in the design solutions we
complete for our clients.
Motors and Variable Speed Drives
Our application specialists have the knowledge and
expertise to select and apply fixed or variable speed
solutions which will function satisfactorily in almost all
power system networks.
We select motors based on load requirements with low
or high starting torque and low inrush to safely power
the mechanical drive train and operate with the highest
power factor and efficiency.
Control and Automation
Selecting, designing and applying the correct hardware
and software solution for the control system is a
continuously evolving process.

Starting methods are determined from the results of
power system studies completed above, whereas
speed control range is determined by the process
requirements.
We custom tailor each application based on the load
characteristic: DC motors, synchronous, qua-dramatic
drives, squirrel-cage, slip-ring induction motors,
wraparound ring-motors, synchronous-induction motors
or PAM motors as the case may be for the particular
application.
State of the art DC drives, cycle-converter, variable
frequency, slip energy recovery drives and variable fill
fluid couplings of various power ratings have been
applied successfully by our team in many applications
in operation today.
Some examples: HV, MV and LV drives and motors
from suppliers such as: ABB, AEG, ANSALDO,
DANFOSS, ETI, GE, IDEAL, HYUNDAI, Mitsubishi,
ROCKWELL, SIEMENS, TECO-WESTINGHOUSE,

Our automation specialists have demonstrated over time
their keen ability to keep up with latest technology and to
select and apply only well proven solutions.
We select and apply Level 1 control through PLC,
distributed
I/O,
smart
controllers
and
smart
instrumentation which integrate with Level 2 Distributed
control system (DCS) and a fully computerized
Management Information System (MIS).
Interfacing and communication techniques though
DEVICE NET, PROFIBUS, Ethernet are key to limiting
the field installation costs and to provide ease of
troubleshooting. Some of the control platforms utilized

MODICON, Siemens, Schneider, etc
Procurement Services
We provide written specifications and monitor
procurement activities for switchgear, transformers,
drives, motors and control system equipment. We further
analyze the proposals from suppliers and report to the
client to aid his purchasing decision. This is a very time
consuming exercise which has the potential to mobilize
many of the plant's manpower resources for long periods
of time.

Obsolescence and Optimization
We lend our expertise to investigate issues of electrical
equipment performance, energy efficiency, damages
due to electrical failures, frequent overloading,
maintenance or obsolescence and any other equipment
issues which would interfere with the normal operation
of the plant.
