Worksheet for Premeds at Xavier University of Louisiana
Pre-Registration for Fall and Coursework Planning
To be completed by Freshmen and turned in before leaving the workshop in the Spring. (updated 3/3/16)
1) When is pre-registration for summer session 2016 and Fall 2016?
2) If you plan on attending summer school at another college or university this summer in order to catch up or get ahead, you must
receive permission from XU prior to enrolling in the course (i.e. if you want to get credit at XU for the course). What is the name of
the form that must be obtained from XU’s Registrar’s Office and completed with appropriate signatures?
3) In order to complete the form in #2, you will need to obtain and review COURSE DESCRIPTIONS in both XU’s most recent
catalog as well as that of the school you plan on attending this summer. Where can course descriptions be found for…
a) Courses at XU?
b) Courses at another college or university?
4) Why do XU’s Premedical Advisers encourage students who hope to enter medical, dental, etc. NOT to take summer classes every
summer their enrolled at the University?
5) XU’s Premed Advisers do NOT recommend that students withdraw from/retake courses in which they can get a grade of “C” or
better*. Why is this the case?
*NOTE: If you ever consider dropping a course, please make sure that in addition to #5 above, you also consider what effect
this might have on your financial aid, scholarship eligibility, etc.
6) According to the “Classification of Students” section in the most recent University Catalog, the 29 hours required to attain
SOPHOMORE status must include the following: 6 hours of English composition or ENGL 1023 H (if you bypassed English
1010) with a grade of “C” or better AND successful completion of any developmental courses. By the end of the Spring 2016
semester, will YOU have SOPHOMORE status?
!YES
!NO
7) Who is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all required and recommended courses for medical, dental, etc. school
are satisfied, including the requirements for early medical school acceptance program application during sophomore year?

16) The table below lists the basic minimum REQUIRED 40 semester hours of science and math courses for most medical, dental, etc.
school, as well as four (4) additional courses that are currently being recommended for students who plan on taking the newly revised MCAT.
It is recommended that you complete these courses BY THE END OF JUNIOR YEAR (i.e. BEFORE you take the necessary entrance exam
and apply to health professions school). Next to each course, use a “√” to indicate when you took (or plan to take) each course at XU (refer
to the appropriate edition of the University Catalog).
NOTE #1: If you bypassed any course (e.g. Pre-Cal), put “PC” in the semester you would have taken it.
