AACOMAS (DO School) EVALUATIONS In reference to letters of evaluation, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOMAS) instructions indicate that osteopathic medical school evaluations should be submitted directly to individual osteopathic medical schools. Although you have the option of having evaluations posted directly to the AACOMAS application, we encourage XU students to have “medical school” evaluations filed in the Premedical Office so they can be transmitted as a “letter packet” to individual AACOMAS schools through the Virtual Evaluations (VE) system that the Premedical Office participates in. XU students who will be applying to DO medical schools via AACOMAS are encouraged to get “medical school” letters of evaluation (written by faculty who taught them on the undergraduate level) filed in the PM Office. Most schools require the evals from the following faculty who taught you in college: Two (2) BCPM (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Math) and one (1) non-BCPM. The required evals should come from people who actually TAUGHT you. You are free to have additional evals filed in the PM Office (e.g. DO physician, research mentor, volunteer coordinator, etc.). Please review the letters of evaluation requirements for the DO medical schools you are interested in applying to make sure you are securing the correct evaluations. The Premedical Office uses an electronic letter submission service, Virtual Evaluations (VE), to submit letters of evaluation to AACOMAS medical schools that participate in VE. Once AACOMAS opens in May, you will receive very specific instructions from the Premedical Office, via email, as to how you should…. 1) Complete the “Letters of Evaluation” section of AACOMAS, and 2) Submit your email request to have the collection of medical school letters that you have on file in the PM Office uploaded to the VE system. It is IMPERATIVE that you read and retain Premedical Office emails, particularly when AACOMAS opens in MAY to make sure you are on track with getting a GOOD application in EARLY (and having your evaluations poste din a timely fashion). To get medical school evaluations filed in the PM Office, you should do the following in November of Junior Year: 1) ASK if teachers are WILLING to write medical school evals on your behalf 2) For those who agree, submit the a) completed Faculty Evaluation Cover Form, b) revised PS, and c) revised PSE Form 3) Make sure you have a signed Evaluation Waiver Form on file in the PM Office, waiving your right to see evals in your file Again, AACOMAS applicants should have their medical school evaluations filed in the Premedical Office!!!
