Dear Student,
In an effort to keep you informed regarding updates and changes in Student Financial Aid, we will periodically send a
financial aid newsletter to all students. Please take the time to read the information below, as it includes several very
significant changes to your student financial aid for the upcoming academic year 2013-2014, as well as future years.
We will continue to send newsletters as important information becomes available.
Verification Process Deadlines
The priority deadline date to submit ALL verification
documents is Wednesday, August 1, 2013.
After August 1, 2013, in order to assist you, hand delivered
documents will only be accepted at registration beginning
August 23, 2013.
Scholarship terms and conditions
Students who have accepted any academic scholarship for
the first time are required to sign and return a Scholarship
Terms & Conditions Form. The form will be emailed
(your XULA) to each recipient once the scholarship is
accepted in BANNER Web. The form can also be found
on our website at http://www.xula.edu/financialaid/documents/13-14/ScholarshipTermsConditions.pdf.
This is required in order for your scholarship to credit
to your account.
If you have received an award offer for the 2013-2014
year you must go to Banner web and accept or decline
your award.
Note:
 In order for your aid to appear on your
assessment sheet you must click the submit
button.

Federal Direct Loan Program
Deadline Date to participate in the Early
Registration Assessment is August 9, 2013.
NOTICE TO THE FEDERAL DIRECT LOAN RECIPIENTS
Effective July 1, there will be a 0.051 percent increase in the
origination fee for Federal Direct Stafford Loans and a 0.204
increase in PLUS origination fees.
Notice regarding changes to the Federal Direct Loan
Program.
Remember to check and use your XULA email account
for important correspondence from Financial Aid, Fiscal,
Registrar, Housing and Admission Offices.
FERPA – Any student that would like to give permission
to the university to disclose information to another
individual must complete the FERPA Form. Check your
XULA email account for future updates.
This change affects only first-time loan borrows as of July 1, 2013.
First time borrowers will no longer be eligible for the Direct
Subsidized loan once the borrowers have received the direct
subsidized loan for a period that is 150% of the published length of
the borrower’s current education program.

Do you love working with children? Do you want to

for Community Service Work Study
for the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014. The following
requirements must be met:





You must have a valid 2013-2014 award on file.
You must have unmet need (determined by the
financial aid office).
You must have at least a 2.0 grade point average.
You must consent to a background check and
drug test.
You must have your own transportation.

Q: How long does the verification process take?
 The verification process is based on the time frame
in which a student submits his or her requested
documents. However, during the peak of processing,
(June, July and August) the verification process may
take from 1 to 2 weeks to verify a student
documents.

Q: When will financial aid fund post to my account?

Your financial aid will post to your account
once the following steps have been completed:

Accepted and submitted your award letter. (Banner
Wed)
Completed Entrance Counseling (if you have
accepted a loan) (studentloans.gov).
Completed a Master Promissory Note (if you have
accepted a loan)/(studentloans.gov)
Swipe your ID in all classes you attend.



Note: The initial scheduled disbursement date for the
fall 2013 semester is September 6, 2013.
