The purpose of this network is to help facilitate communication and stimulate ideas among wilderness managers and their partners to better serve and manage public lands designated as wilderness through the Wilderness Act of 1964 and subsequent legislation. The underlying philosophy is that the collective wisdom of the network is greater than any individual. As such, this network is not formally monitored. The opinions and views expressed are not necessarily endorsed by Wilderness.net or the federal wilderness management agencies, and information conveyed may not be accurate or up-to-date (i.e. it is the users job to evaluate information garnered from others on this site accordingly). 2. Connect.wilderness.net is not for the purpose of using groups to obtain consensus advice or recommendations. 3. Connect.wilderness.net is not for the purpose of discussion regarding wilderness designation. 4. While Connect.wilderness.net serves to facilitate the benefits of information sharing, it is not a substitute for public involvement required by National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). 5. Connect.wilderness.net is not a First Amendment Forum. Members should use this site to share constructive ideas on how to manage wilderness and its issues and should be civil in their communications. 6. This social network is open to individuals having a professional wilderness connection, including, but not limited to: federal, state and local government agency employees, academics, K-12 educators, and other wilderness professionals. 7. Anyone in the network can create a new group around a topic or problem and choose how to manage membership. Group members must be network members. The group creator is responsible for group leadership. Groups of 10 or more are recommended to realize the potential of collective wisdom. 8. Discussion forums in open groups are viewable by any member of Connect.wilderness.net. Discussion forums in closed groups are viewable only by network members who have joined the group through invitation and approval by the group leader. 9. Like e-mail, any information entered on this network is subject to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). ###
