Bus rapidway connection to TTC subway at VMC
exciting changes coming to Vaughan
The next generation of rapid transit is
coming to Vaughan, helping to shape this
growing community. Rapidways are
being built along Highway 7 West, and
then extended to parts of Bathurst Street
and Centre Street [see map on reverse].
Vaughan’s rapidway will feature
dedicated lanes for viva vehicles in the
centre of the road and 13 beautiful new
vivastations. In total the rapidway will
extend 15.9 kilometres from Yonge
Street past Highway 400 to Helen Street.
Rapidway construction will be completed
in two phases, with the first phase from
Edgeley Boulevard to just east of Keele
Street at Bowes Road,in the centre of
the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre
development area.
This first phase will be completed in
conjunction with the Toronto-York
Spadina Subway Extension [TYSSE],
GO transit and other regional transit.

The subway extension from Downsview
Station to Highway 7 is scheduled to be
in service in 2016, including a new subway
station west of Jane Street on the north
side of Highway 7. Phase 2 of construction
is scheduled to be complete by 2018, and
will include a rapidway on Highway 7 from
west of Highway 400 at Helen Street to
Yonge Street, including parts of Bathurst
Street and Centre Street.
The rapidway project includes attractive
landscaping and wider sidewalks,
setting the stage for
pedestrian-friendly
and mixed-use
development and
establishing the area
as an attractive
destination for
residents, businesses
and visitors to live,
work and visit.

For those travelling in and around Vaughan, transit is about to become more
connected, and more convenient. The rapidway vivastation at VMC will connect to both
the subway station and an inter-regional bus terminal. Its appearance echoes the
other rapidway vivastations, but with a modified roof design to accommodate longer
and wider platforms. Customers and pedestrians at this busy transit hub will be able
to connect to different transit services via elevators and stairs from the vivastation
platform to an underground concourse. Vaughan is attracting new development to this
area and transit will be ready to move everyone with speed, comfort and style.
