The Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension runs
8.6 km and includes six new stations. It will take
riders from the present Downsview Station to the
Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station at Highway 7.
From there, pedestrians will have a variety of
transit options all within walking distance! You can
already see the station being built!

along Highway 7 in Vaughan, with
construction beginning in 2016. The 12 km
of new dedicated rapidway will be
constructed in two areas: from
west of Helen Street to
Edgeley Boulevard just east
of Highway 400, and from
Centre Street to Yonge Street
via the existing Viva route
on Centre and Bathurst
Streets. Construction is
scheduled to be
completed in 2020.

Located on Highway 7 West at Millway Avenue, this unique
vivastation is designed to completely cover the rapidway
and accommodate a longer and wider station platform.
Customers and pedestrians will be able to make
connections to Viva at street level and access the subway
and B SmartREIT bus terminal through a convenient and
fully-accessible underground pedestrian concourse.

from Interchange Way/Edgeley Boulevard
to just east of Keele Street at Bowes Road,
and three new vivastations. This phase of
the rapidway will open for service by the
end of 2016. Vaughan Metropolitan Centre
[VMC] Station—the new vivastation in the
VMC development area—will connect the
rapidway with the Toronto-York Spadina
Subway Extension [TYSSE] and an interregional bus terminal. Opening of VMC
Station will coincide with the opening of
the TYSSE, in late 2017.

All of the new vivastations will feature an enclosed, heated and LEDSteeles Avenue
lit section and an arched glass canopy to shelter passengers. The
vivastations at Creditstone and at Keele are nearing completion.
The vivaNext rapidways are more than just a transit
project. They also include urban design elements such as
pedestrian-friendly
boulevards, wider
concrete sidewalks
and planters.
Once the rapidway is complete, Highway 7 West and Bathurst
& Centre will have attractive, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks,
with extensive
landscaping including
newly planted
shrubs, groundcover,
ornamental grasses
and perennial
flowers.
Important traffic and pedestrian
changes are happening at major
intersections—almost complete in
Phase 1. Motorists are benefiting from
new turning movements [dedicated
left-turns and permitted U-turns]
and pedestrians now have two-stage
crossings, giving them the option
to cross Highway 7 in two stages.
These changes will also be made at
signalized intersections in Phase 2.
Bike lanes will be built as part of the vivaNext rapidway
construction. They will be painted a high-contrast green in the
areas around intersections
and side streets, with specific
bike lane markings to clearly
identify them. Bathurst &
Centre will have raised bike
lanes, and there will be a bike
and pedestrian path across the
400 bridge on Highway 7.
