Recommendation 2: crossing the
East Don River with a bridge
Why?
• Creates opportunity to naturalize the river valley and open up a wildlife corridor
• Improves road profile on Yonge Street for pedestrians and drivers
• Bridge raises subway alignment to allow for shallower, more accessible station at Royal Orchard
• Shallower alignment provides operational and maintenance benefits over the long term bridge naturalized valley
Recommendation 3: the bridge should have a heritage look
Why?
• Links the north and south communities
• Respects and recognizes the heritage areas
EAST DON RIVER
What elements of the bridge would best reflect the local heritage (eg. railings, facade treatment, gateway features, etc.)?

Recommendation 4: align subway near existing transit services
Why?
• Close connections among transit services result in shorter walking distances for commuters
• Creates a well-integrated inter-modal transit hub, which enables efficient transfers
• Allows for future extension to the north using an existing rail corridor
• Optimizes development potential at Richmond Hill Centre
• Maximizes distance from woodlot at southeast corner of
Yonge Street at High Tech Road
407 transitway subway
Making Steeles station work
Station planning considerations
• Provide excellent pedestrian access
• Optimize walking distances between transit connections
• Accommodate a high volume of buses from the north, east and west
• Provide a terminal for 28 bus bays to handle surface transit routes
• Accommodate adjacent property access and protect for future redevelopment in the area
• Recognize the requirement to accommodate a high volume of car movement at this intersection
