The profound impact of
traditional culture
Harold

We have been living and studying in
England, this beautiful and fertile
land for 6 months, teachers of
Warwick University have teaches us
a lot of knowledge and experience.
At the same time, we also visited the
local museums, castles and churches
to learned many British history and
culture. We studied the lifestyle
there through the communication
between local people and us, and
deeply realized the charm of
traditional British culture.
First, the traditional ChineseBritish cultural characteristics

Salient features of traditional culture
are: from generation to generation,
national characteristics and long
history. We came to the UK to study
and live, and always felt a strong
British atmosphere of traditional
culture, but also touched me deeply
to think of traditional Chinese culture.

Regional influence of traditional
Chinese culture

China is located in eastern Asia, the Pacific West
Coast, inland Northwest extensively in Asia, is
both a land and sea country. The traditional
Chinese concept of the "world" is the area within
the four seas posed. In ancient Chinese society,
the agricultural areas are in eastern and northwest are mainly nomadic areas. Thereby it makes
Chinese traditional culture, farming culture and
the nomadic cultures co-exist and complement
each other. Farming economy in the eastern part
is the dominant, which is the survival of
traditional Chinese culture and development of
the main economic base.

National characteristics of
traditional Chinese culture

Han Chinese traditional culture is the
main body, composed of multi-ethnic
Chinese nation in the long process of
historical development, and the
creation of a special culture system.
Confucianism is an important part of
traditional Chinese culture. Taoism
and Buddhist are also a collection of
minority cultures.
The eyes of foreigners in China

Foreigners may not have deep
impressions on China. You may be
familiar with the large number of
Chinese people, diligent Chinese
people , very fine Chinese porcelain,
famous Chinese silk , rich delicious
Chinese cuisine, Chinese Kung Fu
admiration and wow world of Chinese
calligraphy. How do specific
foreigners think of China may vary.
Chinese people's impressions of
the British

General impression of the Chinese people in the
UK are: fog in London, Buckingham Palace, Big
Ben, Westminster Cathedral, Oxford and
Cambridge, the British Museum, Tower Bridge,
Bath City and Stonehenge ...; There are so many
familiar names and their masterpieces:
Shakespeare, George Bernard Shaw, Byron,
Shelley, and Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie and JK
Rowling, etc.; also one of the most familiar of
British tea, polo, Scotland whiskey; in humid air
enveloped the streets, armed with umbrellas,
dressed, conservative British tradition of
restrained humor gentleman; Edinburgh garden,
dressed in stockings, plaid skirt Scottish men, a
bagpipe in hand, sounded clear melodious voice.

Through learning and life, it enables us to further
understand the traditional culture of the UK's
enormous impact on world civilization .From the
political perspective, Britain is the birthplace of
modern constitutional democracy. The British
Parliament opened the model of the cabinet
system of representative democracy. The British
technological development do the same
contribution to world civilization, from Newton's
law of gravitation, on the industrial revolution
Watt invented the steam engine, Wilmot to
replicate the animal successfully, showing the
British scientific and technological strength in the
field. We learn advanced technology and
traditional culture is to learn to understand
people make up our own weaknesses. The United
Kingdom have a strong tradition in the
humanities , but also in modern technology and
continuous innovation breakthroughs, which are
worthy of us to learn by heart .
Second, experience the
differences between Chinese and
British tradition of cultural

Traditional culture in Britain and
China has a very rich content, and
we also feel the difference on
traditional culture in our daily life ,
study and communications.
We learned a lot of knowledge
We learned a lot of knowledge

People's daily life and traditional habits of mind Greetings

Chinese people generally start the greeting in other's
situations or the movement. When meeting people,
especially between acquaintances, we say hello to show
courtesy. In English, using a simple "Hi!" Or "Hello!" to
greet people, or using the "Hi" and "Hello" followed by their
name. In addition, the greeting can also be used to meet
with wish language, such as: "Good Morning, Good
Afternoon, Good Evening, Good Day, Good Night" and so on.
This kind of greeting is rarely used between the Chinese
people. Chinese people often say "you eaten yet?" It's just
the way to say hello, actually not really want to know
whether the other dined. However, in English, the phrase is
no longer say hello, but the offer or invitation to dinner the
other. Another commonly used Chinese greeting is "Where
are you going?" Or ask "what are you going to?" These two
questions in Chinese mean hello instead of wanting to
knowing the greeted people where to go . However, if we
ask English, you may be surprised, even disgusted. You
would think that the problem is interference in private
affairs, rather than friendly greetings.
Receiving gifts

When a Chinese received a gift, usually
put it on one side. After making sure the
guests left, it could not wait to open. They
always said: "you spend big money," and
"really sorry", "Never again" and "not
sending the next time." When the British
received a gift, they usually open
immediately in front of the guests, and
even claimed that good: "Wow! Very
beautiful!", "What a wonderful gift it is!",
"Thank you for your present".
Asking

Chinese people are used to center
others, consider others' emotions.
For example: "What do you want to
buy?", "What do you want to eat?"
But the British often follow their own
point of view. Such as: "Can I help
you?", "What can I do for you?".
The attitude to the dog

Also, we know that the British like dogs, the most
typical difference between us to be the attitude
to this animal. "Dog" in Chinese and British
cultures have different values. The dog in
Chinese culture is a humble animal. Chinese
people, in most cases, describe a bad person or
thing with the word dog. These words clearly has
derogatory meanings, such as dogs, Sang
Jiaquan, Gouzhangrenshi, dogfight, traitor
lackeys and so on. In the UK, we can see people
holding the dog everywhere, and are very close
to the dogs. The dog is often an equal footing
with others. They also are considered as a
member of the family, as the dog is a cute
companion, man's best friend. English idioms in
most of the dog is not derogatory, such as the
top dog, lucky dog, help a dog over a still, as
faithful as a dog. Obviously, it reflects the
traditional psychology of British culture.
The strong independent

I remember once we transfer to Metro
subway station in London. One of my
colleagues saw a British old woman with
heavy luggage over stairs and took the
initiative to go help with the luggage. The
woman had not accepted, but showed
annoyed. In our country, it is certainly
opposite reaction. We can imagine the
differences between the two cultures.
Relationships

The relationships among Chinese
people are very complex and
important, not to mention kinship to
kinship more. In Britain, people and
people in the title is also more casual.
Even young people can call the
elderly their first names and also
between family members or the
upper and lower. It is considered
impolite in China.

We went to England to study and live here
which made us realize that people's
communications between different
countries can not only rely on language
and the literal translation of listening and
speaking. The different traditional cultures
may make the contact differ greatly. if we
are out of the local traditions and cultural
background and environment ,we can't
understand some things accurately. But
this difference is often difficult to be
detected in the same kind of cultural
atmosphere. It is prominent in the
collision of two cultures.

The examples I have just encountered in
my daily life and study, which are just the
bits hidden in the rich cultural
connotations .Different historical traditions
form in different national psychology,
ways of thinking and living habits. So to
recognize these differences without
correspond and can be properly
understood, which requires us to focus on
the background and significance of
traditional culture. But we also must have
a thorough understanding of the tradition
of cultural information hidden by daily
communication.

Third, the enlightenment of the
traditional cultural influence

We can see that exchange between
people of different countries can not
ignore the traditional cultural factors.
We should learn to pay attention to
background knowledge related to
traditional culture and to improve
cognitive abilities.
Firstly, to study the traditional culture, we need
a tolerant attitude towards traditional culture.

Learning a foreign language not only to
master the pronunciation, grammar,
vocabulary and idioms, etc., but also how
the locals look at things, observe the
world. We need to understand how they
use their own language to convey their
right ideas, habits and culture.
Understanding the language are
inseparable with the traditional culture.
We should be open and tolerant towards
the diversity of traditional cultural
differences.
Second, communicating with foreigners, we must first
understand each others' traditional culture

We exchanges with people of different nationalities and
ethnics. We encountered collisions and no suit between the
different traditional and cultural backgrounds. These are
very common situation. Almost all people who arrived in a
foreign country will be feeling. Traditional culture can be
learned and accepted, and the importance of traditional
cultural differences, with the increasing internationalization
of the world, in foreign countries has been more and more
important. In China, such awareness is not very popular.
Many people think, to go abroad or contact with foreigners
in the country, mastering the language will be able to solve
the problem. People must understand the local exchange of
the traditional culture in order to communicate better.
Many exchanges of information are from non-verbal
communication. Your every move makes a show of hands in
each other's eyes are likely to generate an unexpected
meaning. But to interpret these passwords, understand
each other's traditions and cultural backgrounds is the key.
Third, to learn foreign advanced concepts, we
must first learn their traditional culture

Any social progress, the same road as locomotive,
requires power and balance two effects. Lack of
motivation, it is difficult to move forward: bad
checks and balances, it can not accelerate.
Balance and power, stability and change in any
society to maintain the mutually reinforcing
factors. Leaving a stable change, it may produce
disturbances; leave the stability of change, will
conservative and backward. Western traditional
culture has its good and bad. The correct way
should be absorbing the the strengths of both
traditions and should not be raising one or
denouncing one .If the cultural traditions can be
handed down, it indicates that they have their
own vitality.
Fourth, inheriting and carrying forward the traditional
culture is a source of development of human
civilization

A country without its own unique culture is
difficult in the nations of the world's longstanding. A country without its own unique
tradition of a nation, will be a loss of national
soul and driving force. The Chinese nation's fine
traditions are the most valuable part of the
national spirit of the Chinese people's. With
China's modern economic and cultural needs of
frequent foreign exchange, Chinese and Western
cultures have their own advantages and
characteristics. We should boldly absorb and
draw all mankind intelligence to create useful
civilization, but also special attention to inherit
and carry forward the fine traditions of the
Chinese nation and cherishes the wisdom of
traditional Chinese culture and modern values.
Fifth, inheriting and carrying forward the traditional
culture is the root of the consolidation of national unity

A country, a nation's traditional culture and
development, is the nation's traditional culture,
the root of the retrospective, but also has the
glorious history responsibilities to provide the rich
resources to connect the present and future
cultural development. Therefore, in the
modernization process, inheriting, protecting,
promoting and developing their traditional culture,
retaining cultural roots of this nation, for their
country's national culture, tracing the source of
identity and belonging which deepen into the
heart of every citizen, is the proper action in the
country's modernization process.
Sixth, inherit and carry forward the traditional culture is an
.
important driving force of development of human society

Traditional culture can strengthen the links between China
and the world. Since ancient times, Chinese culture is the
culture of openness, such as the introduction of Buddhism
the Eastern at Han Dynasty, the introduction of Christianity
at Ming Dynasty, etc., the ancient Chinese Silk Road is the
road of the exchange of Chinese and Western cultures.
However, traditional Chinese cultures have had a
conservative trend in its development process. Therefore,
we should actively promote exchanges between Chinese
traditional culture and advanced foreign cultural, mutual
learning and prosperity, and absorb good things of foreign
culture while contribute the advanced side of traditional
culture to the world. In addition we can also eliminate the
barriers and prejudices between nations, and promoting
political and economic exchanges between countries,
promote the development of human society through
cultural exchanges.
