Accuplacer Retakes & Advising Zones at College of the Redwoods www.redwoods.edu If you are satisfied with your placement, you can enroll in the class that you tested into. However, if your Accuplacer score in English puts you in class that’s lower than you think you should be in, we encourage you to retake the exam and see if you do better on a second attempt. There is no cost to you for an additional attempt. If your Accuplacer score shows you’re in an Advising Zone, you have several options: A) You can provide a high school transcript for your junior and senior years of English with a GPA of 3.0 (your transcript no more than three years old), and you will be allowed to move up to the next higher placement. B) If your high school GPA is less than a 3.0, or the transcript is more than three years old, you can schedule yourself to take a reading & writing test on campus that will determine whether you stay in the lower level or move to the next higher level. C) Or if you’ve placed into the advising zone just below English 1A, you can sign up to take English 103 (English Jam). English Jam is a one unit course that helps students prepare for English 1A through a variety of reading and writing activities. If you pass English 103, you can then sign up for English 1A.
