CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
An introduction to volcanic activity, its causes and distribution, associated rocks and minerals,
and resulting landforms. An all—day field trip to the Clear Lake area examines volcanic features
such as lava flows, cinder cones, and pyroclastic deposits.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
1. Identify common volcanic rocks and associated minerals.
2. Understand the causes and nature of volcanic activity.
3. Appreciate volcanism in terms of human ecology, hazards and benefits.
