Instructional Council
Monday March 20, 2014
Notes
Present: Keith Snow-Flamer, Tracey Thomas, Jeff Cummings, Alison Stull, Julia Peterson, Ron Waters,
Crislyn Parker-notes
1. DE Update:
 Keith submitted two SARTCO requests for DE oversight for the 2014-15 academic year: 22.5 TLU
release (Mark Winter) and 45 TLU release (Mark Winter), in addition to an instructional
technologist. This is expected to be a temporary arrangement; next year will determine how DE at
CR will look.
 Keith would like all administrators go through the CRFO DE training for background. Erin may send
some people to a summer training.
 Eventually there will be orientation and training for current and new faculty; initiation into how
CR’s DE program works.
 All programs or any ADTs we want to offer, over 50% online, should be moved through curriculum
now, for inclusion in the substantive change submission to the Chancellor.
 A search for office space is in process for the ITC directors (Integrated Training Center).
2. Schedule/FTES Status:
 The schedule is in, currently nothing for Mendocino
 Angelina is automating daily section updates. We look light on math, science, AJ and PE. Tiffany is
reviewing for an accurate projection of FTES by section.
3. Syllabi Requirements:
 All syllabi are required to have a course calendar and cover sheet. All deans/directors will have
syllabi reviewed to ensure the calendar is included.
 There was discussion on requiring textbook ISBN numbers be included for on the syllabi. Keith will
work with Senate.
4. Book Orders Process:
 With faculty ordering texts directly through the Bookstore, deans do not have access to text
information for archival purposes. They would like a process to enable them to obtain a list of all
texts/ISBNs being used each semester. Crislyn will discuss this with Sue Alton and report back to
the Instructional Council. Lists could go to Crislyn to submit to deans each semester.
5. MC Update:
 Based on student SEP data, Keith sent a list of courses needed for Mendocino students to Mendocino
College. Next step is to determine whether they will be offered through Mendocino College or our
site. Mendocino College is not interested in expanding offerings, except basic skills
 A draft MOU was sent to Arturo Reyes, Superintendent/President and Virginia Guleff, Vice
President Education/Student Services at Mendocino College. They will review.
 Dave Gonsalves is taking students to visit Mendocino College, Ukiah and Willits. Their schedule
won’t be released until May 1.
 Board has not yet approved releasing the site and a backup plan is being created.
6. Policy/Practice Regarding Faculty/Associate Faculty Absences:
 There is a problem with associate faculty being absent to attend a conference and classes cancelled
without notice to the division. No clear policy on this.
 The policy for full time faculty absenteeism is somewhat unclear; a suggestion to review the policies
for clarification with CRFO.

7. Evaluations:
 CRFO MOU revised evaluation process has not been completed; the current evaluation process will
continue.
8. English 350:
 Discussion that a non-credit course needs to be developed to bridge students completing READ 260,
but who are not quite prepared for placing into ENGL 350. It was agreed developing a non-credit
course between READ 260 and ENGL 350 would fill the gap.
9. Dual Enrollment Update:
 Deans Tracey Thomas and Erin Wall, full-time faculty John Johnston and Kerry Mayer, Sheila Hall,
Angela Winkle, and Kathy Goodlive met with Rick Jordan, Principle/Superintendent and School
Counselor Delores Haskamp at Eureka High School.
 Very positive feeling. Counselors are ready to move. Several areas of concern were addressed;
classroom space, computer access and technology needs, counseling support and transition,
coordination of breaks, and overall student preparedness. Jordan would like students to have a “real
college experience.” CR agreed to provide additional enrollment support and an orientation for
students in the dual enrollment program, separate and different than the support provided for high
school seniors attending in the fall. Some of this support may be in the form of a non-credit course.
We will also collaborate with EHS to provide an orientation for CR faculty with Eureka High School
staff, and provide contact information or a FAQ for faculty/staff from both institutions.
 Kathy Goodlive discussed the non-credit course – possibly offer in April? Kathy will follow up
 Jordan ready to implement the Ready, Set, Go mid-April but no mention of time of day. Keith will
follow-up.
Note: Aztec software does job ready curriculum, soft skill curriculum; Pelican Bay is one of their
customers; Aztec rep can get Jeff in to tour computer lab; met thru affiliation with ACCAOE.
10. AP 4021 Update:
 Deans and directors will analyze program reviews, looking only at AP 4021 Appendix A criteria and
bring to the March 31 meeting for discussion, where a decision will be made if there is a necessity to
move any to the next level. .
11. IE and FM Resource Requests:
 Currently, the only requests for block grant resource funding is ANTH and the Library. There is a
March 31 deadline.
 Dean’s bring requests for review and potential funding. Provide enough information to link decision
making and funding to program review.
 Submit requests to Crislyn by March 28, for inclusion in the March 31 agenda.
