following roll call vote:

Discussion:
1. Erik Kramer asked if there should be a spot of the form to put the high school course number and
title to be inserted. Marla Gleave said that information would be on the curriculum alignment form,
would be completed during the curriculum alignment meeting between the high school and the CR
instructor acting as the liaison.
2. Erik Kramer asked if there should be a requirement that the dual enrollment form be updated on a
regular basis, even if there are no changes. Marla Gleave said that the MOU has to updated every
three years but a note could be added to question #3.
3. The term “faculty” refers to CR faculty and “instructor” is in reference to the high school teacher.
4. If a course is identified for dual enrollment, the division dean will be contact and will then
disseminate the information to the whole discipline. One faculty member will then serve as the
liaison with the high school. The liaison will submit the Dual Enrollment Curriculum Approval form
that the Curriculum Committee to be acted on. The liaison will also attend the Curriculum
Committee meeting to answer questions. There is a stipend for any faculty that act as the liaison.
5. The next step of the dual enrollment task force is for Marla to meet with all the deans and the
faculty so they understand the dual enrollment process.
6. Barbara Jaffari asked how the evaluations would be conducted. Marla Gleave said the first
evaluation would have to take place within the first 5 weeks of the course.
7. A request form must be submitted every time the high school wants a course taught. But not ever
request form triggers an alignment meeting. If the request is denied, the high school asked they be
informed why the course can’t be taught so that they can move forward and have another instructor
MQ.
8. Erik Kramer asked if the term is the CR term or the high school term. Marla Gleave said they are
working with Rianne Connor to work this out.
9. Gary Sokolow asked if the Chancellor’s Office has to approve this. Marla Gleave said that AB 288
requires approve from CR’s Board of Trustees and from the high school. The CCCCO is mainly
concerned if the dual enrollment process will displace instructors, and how we deal with an open or
closed campus. AB 288 is to ensure everyone is on the same page.

1. Wendy Riggs said that the hybrid delivery of the GEOL-1 course is being inactivated because it was
problematic when it was offered.
2. Barbara Jaffari asked why the independent study courses (40s) are being inactivated. Michelle
Haggerty said if independent study is not being run it is showing up in the Assessment Tool as not
being assessed. Sean Herrera-Thomas said it looked bad for accreditation to not be able to assess
those courses.

With the following revisions:
1. Gary Sokolow asked if this course required an hands-on lab work. Wendy Riggs said there are kits
that can be purchased to do the labs. But the Science department will pilot this course in Fall 2016,
collect the data and assess to see how the class went. One of things to be worked out is how to build
collaborative lab reports using Canvas or Google docs.
2. Wendy Riggs said students taking this course are non-majors.
3. Marla Gleave asked if a separate distance education form needs to be submitted for each delivery
method. Gary Sokolow said that the rationale provided on the form has to cover all of the delivery
methods selected.
4. Rianne Connor asked if any thought had been given to having a lending library for students taking
the distance education version of the course.

Discussion:
1. Wendy Riggs said that the 40 classes are listed on transcripts as “Independent Study”. The science
department came up with a list of what the BIOL-40 has been used for the most and have developed
a series of courses.
2. Rianne Connor said that independent study does not prerequisites because the faculty and
department have to give approval in order to allow a student to register for independent study.
Independent study courses do not appear on WebAdvisor and are not built until the agreement with
all the signatures is received. Rianne suggested the department come up with a criteria and a policy
for allowing students to take independent study.

there are currently no paid tutors in biology.
3. Juana Tabares said if a student takes this course as pass/no pass, they will get credit and it will not
be counted towards the GPA. Rianne Connor said that when students transfer to CR, any courses
taken Pass/No Pass are not counted towards GPA but are given credit.

said that Certificates of Competency cover basic skills, ESL, and work readiness skills. Certificates of
Completion are for short term vocational courses.
2. The Academic Senate tabled noncredit certificates at their last meeting because of concerns as to
how the community would interpret this certificate based on the titles or what students are putting
on their resumes.
3. Liz Carlyle said that the Program and Course Approval Handbook does not allow descriptors in the
title such as: noncredit, for transfer, etc. The certificate title can only indicate the scope and level of
the certificate.

Discussion:
1. Erik Kramer noted that there was no faculty outside of the Agriculture department that was
consulted on this course proposal. The consultation is important since this course is being
considered for general education and other faculty will be affected.
2. Sean Herrera-Thomas suggested adding a part whether the other has consulted other faculty of that
GE area.
3. Barbara Jaffari felt that this was a larger discussion that needs to take district-wide.
4. Michelle Haggerty said that the Curriculum Committee has asked other proposal authors if other
impacted departments or faculty were consulted.

Discussion:
1. Ron Waters said that POST courses are set on an 8 hour schedule but CR uses the 9 hour Carnegie
hour. He asked if it were possible to have POST courses be counted under the 8 hours. Michelle
Haggerty said this would have to be a college-wide discussion. Rianne Connor said she would post
this to the enrollment services listserv and see how other schools handle scheduling POST courses.
