AGENDA ITEM 6.1.2 Burk McBride Director of Public Safety College of the Redwoods Burk McBride retired as a 20 year veteran of the Department of Public Safety, Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) in 2013 from full time duty as a Training Supervisor over the State Firearms Program and Training Specialist for the State of Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Burk continued to teach as an Adjunct Instructor in firearms and scenarios until he was hired as the Public Safety Manager for the College of the Redwoods in April, 2015. Burk’s experience in law enforcement includes 10 years in the Nation Guard as a Howitzer Artillery Gunner and a Military Police Officer and 20 years with UHP. 6 years as a UHP Trooper, then 5 years as a patrol Sergeant with the highlight of serving as a supervisor during 2002 Winter Olympics requiring extensive collaboration with state and federal agencies, and in charge of the main canyon route on I-80 to the Olympic venues. Patrol Supervisor over 12 officers investigating wide ranges of crimes, including suicides, sexual assault, violent acts, and others for the largest college in Utah with 10 campuses, and a 60,000 student body, at the Salt Lake Community College. 9 years’ experience as a Training Specialist and Supervisor over various programs including Alcohol Technician/DUI trainer/Court Expert, and as Firearms Expert and Program Supervisor over the State Handgun and Rifle training program for POST cadets and instructors. Burk is also a Certified Concealed Weapons Instructor for the State of Utah. Burk’s professional experience also includes Public Safety Leadership Academy, Public Safety Security Awareness and Hazmat; Management Planning and Budget; School of Patrol Staffing; Emergency Medical Technician; Instructor Development & Conflict Resolution Instructor; Indiana University Center for Studies of Law in Action, DUI/Safety Certificate; Federal Emergency Management Trainings; Consular Notification and Access, Diplomatic and Consular Immunity, Asylum Issues; Leadership Academy; Public Safety Security Awareness; Simunition Scenario Instructor; and student of the nationwide Law Enforcement Training Camp for Firearms 2009-2012. Burk has been recognized and awarded Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon (2), Excellence in Performance of Duty Award, Utah Olympic Public Safety Command Ribbon, Section Award for most DUI's arrested in one year, and Employee Bonus Recognition Award for outstanding performance.
