Terms of Reference









Oversees the introduction of the Sessional Teaching Project (STP) in the agreed pilot
Departments
Agrees what rates of pay are appropriate for which activities within departments, using the
framework provided by HR for compliance
Agrees principles upon which rates of pay may deviate from the recommended rate of pay for a
particular role within a department (can be done by Chair’s/Secretary’s action where urgent)
Responsible for the evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the STP in Pilot Departments
(including stakeholder/user feedback)
Considers the Roll-Out of the STP to other departments for 2016/17 as appropriate, and issuing
appropriate recommendations to ARC and Steering
Considers the Financial Implications of the STP
Receives regular departmental updates about the implementation
Responsible for the long-term financial and operational sustainability of the STP and overall
departmental resourcing of sessional teaching
Provides feedback on the academic quality of the CPD provided, and ensures the financial
sustainability of enhanced CPD provision

Evaluation of proposed roles to determine appropriate link to national pay framework

Ensures the operational implementation of the STP, including core administration and IT Systems,
time recording and payments
Ensures departments are advised on the HR processes and procedures within the STP
Oversees improvements to VAM where it continues to operate in departments
Ensures that the CPD dimension to the STP is implemented successfully, is delivered to a high
standard, and is consistent with institutional frameworks e.g. for post graduates who teach
