November 20, 2001
Members present: Dr. Judy Neale (Chair), Dr. Marcy Blackburn, Dr. David Cameron, Dr.
Michael Cass, Dr. Sue Fuson, Ms. Shirley Goos, Dr. Barbara Griffin, Mr. John Hodgson, Dr.
Teresa Lubrano, Dr. Margie McMahan, Mr. Justin Walton, and Mrs. Edna Williams.
Members absent: Dr. Anita Hernandez, Dr. Gregory Hoepfner, Dr. Lance Janda, Dr. Kurtis
Koll, Dr. Mark Reid, Dr. Michelle Smith, Ms. Jan Thomas, Mr. Robert Dowell (LPS
representatives), Caroline Turner, and Bobby Ramsey (student representatives).
(1) Meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Judy Neale.
(2) The first item of business was review of minutes of last meeting. David Cameron moved to
approve minutes, Margie McMahan seconded approval of minutes. Motion passed unanimously.
(3) A list of sixteen (16) students who had been interviewed by the Selection, Admission and
Retention Committee, was presented to the Teacher Education Council. Sixteen students met all
criteria for admission. Barbara Griffin moved and John Hodgson seconded that the sixteen
applicants be recommended to the Director of Teacher Education for admission to Teacher
Education. Motion passed unanimously.
(4) The Chair presented the elementary major 4 x 12 program requirements. The elementary
OSAT exam has been revised to test elementary education students over their content in English,
math, science, and social studies. The Chair asked for Council Members to consider whether we
should consider the 4 x 12 an extension of the elementary major and require that grades in the 4
x 12 be C or better. Council members should discuss this with their departments. We will vote on
this at the next meeting.
(5) Next meeting will be Wednesday, January 9, 2002, at 4:00 p.m. Teacher Education
interviews are scheduled for Wednesday, January 9, 2002, a.m.
Mike Cass made motion to adjourn, Teresa Lubrano seconded motion.
Meeting adjourned at 4:24 p.m.
