Presentation Guidelines
Starting Nov. 17, students will be required to deliver an in-class presentation that briefly explores their
assigned language topic. A good presentation will cover the highlights of the student’s research paper
and give other students insight into the topic, particularly from the standpoint of language features and
properties discussed in class.
Presentations will be held during the regular class lecture time. Please note that even though talks will
be scheduled across multiple lecture times, you must submit your presentation materials to me by
Nov. 16 at 11:59 PM. Typical late assignment policy rules will apply. Your research paper, however, will
be due (as a hardcopy and electronic copy) on Wednesday, December 9 before 5 PM.
Presentations in PPT or other electronic format are required and you must use the classroom PC to
deliver the presentation. A typical presentation time should be approximately 12 minutes. Presentations
must not exceed 15 minutes or be shorter than 10 minutes and, because of our tight schedule, will be
terminated when 15 minutes have passed.
Visual aids such as images, tables, and graphs must be presented in a clearly understandable format.
You may use the whiteboard if you wish to comment on questions, but you must not depend on them.
To address all issues in your topic description, you may need to find resources for your presentation,
such as textbooks, Internet sources, and/or technical papers (when applicable). Suggested is to add a bit
of history that explains the origin and/or the context of the topic, when applicable.
