Minutes Academic Standards Committee February 2, 2015 Convened at 1:07 pm in the Misner room. The minutes of December 5, 2014 were approved via e-­‐mail. II. Petitions Subcommittee Report for the period December 3, 2014 – January 21, 2015. The Emergency Administrative Withdrawal was granted to a student who was very troubled by events in her community at home. The denied core requirement petition was from a student who argued that although the course was not designated for the Fine Arts Core, the content and purpose was similar to what was intended for the Core. The withdrawal after the last day of class was for a student who produced evidence supporting his plans to withdraw even if he did not complete the transaction as he thought he had. For the year to date, 123 petitions have been approved and 15 have been denied. Among the 138 petitions considered, there were 16 late registrations, 28 schedule conflict registrations, and 28 medical withdrawals. For comparison, by January 22, 2014, 110 petitions were approved and 15 denied. Among the 125 petitions considered by this time last year, there were 30 late registrations, 11 schedule conflict registrations, and 18 medical withdrawals. In addition to petitions, 117 sanctions were placed on undergraduate students: 39 Warning 7 Suspension 3 Suspension/Probation 43 Probation 3 Continued Probation 13 Semester Dismissal (Including 10 freshmen) 9 Year Dismissal And, a 1st year graduate student was placed on probation. III. Confirmation of the Spring Chair Jan Leuchtenberger is the Spring 2015 chair of the ASC policy committee. She kindly volunteered to serve in this role at the September 5, 2014 meeting. IV. Discussion of Meeting Times The policy subcommittee will meet every other Monday at 1 pm. The petitions subcommittee will meet every Thursday at 3:30 pm. Locations to be determined. V. Topic for Discussion at the next meeting—A review of policies for incomplete grades. Committee members were encouraged to review the December 5, 2014 minutes for the next meeting. The Chair asked Tomhave if data could be located to address the magnitude of the issue. What are the incomplete grade rates across campus? What number of incomplete grades are converted to a F grade?
