Teacher Education Council Minutes August 10, 2015 Members Present: Stephanie Boss, Travis Childs, Jennifer Dennis, Rebecca Easley, Claudia Edwards, Stacie Garrett, Courtney Glazer, Carla Guthridge, Jacqueline Herbert, Dana Hilbert, Greg Hoepfner, Lisa Huffman, Amanda Husak, Howard Kuchta, Teresa Morales, Holly Rice, Michelle Smith Proceedings: 1. Meeting began at 3:45 pm. 2. Last month’s meeting minutes were approved. Motion was made by Travis Childs to approve and second by Jennifer Dennis. All approved. Approved minutes from the previous meeting are posted at http://www.cameron.edu/teachered 3. Director of Education Report: A. NCATE/CAEP update: Reminder of upcoming events- August 21, 2015 NCATE Luncheon and August 31, 2015 NCATE pre-visit. B. Current certification data and Oklahoma Report 2015: Review of scores and brief discussion was held. 4. Admission and Retention Committee Report: Nine students presented for admission. Discussion on pending student was held. Courtney Glazer made the motion to admit eight students and one student pending passing OGET. Second was made by Michelle Smith. All approved. 5. Other Business A. Old Business: None at this time. B. New Business 1. Selection and approval of student representative: Approval of student representative will be at the next meeting. 2. Request to Delete a Course- MUSC 3683 3. Request to Delete a Course MUSC 4702: Greg Hoepfner reported that Vice President Vanderslice asked for a review of classes that were no longer being offered. After review, two courses were no longer offered: 4702 Marching Band Techniques and 3683 Music for Elementary Teachers. Band techniques are taught in another class, Secondary Instrumental Methods. Music for Elementary Teachers has been redesigned and replaced with Elementary Methods. Jennifer Dennis made a motion to delete the two courses. Second was made by Claudia Edwards. All Approved. 4. Request for Program Modification Social Studies Education: Two changes were proposed. First to eliminate the requirement for a 2000 level or above three hour elective course in Political Science, Geography, Economics, Humanities, or Sociology as part of the 45 hours of core major requirements. Second, require SOCI 1113 Introduction to Sociology as part of the 45 hours of core major requirements. Greg Hoepfner made the motion to make the changes. Second was made by Jennifer Dennis. All approved. 5. Action on proposal from Grad Faculty- Michelle Smith- modifying hours on grad program transition points: The objective is to provide true transition points at 12 and 24 hours for consistency in the grad program. Motion made by Howard Kuchta. Second was made by Claudia Edwards. All approved. 6.
