For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Sept. 25, 2007 Students set to lead Cameron’s 2007 Convocation Four students, representing each of Cameron University’s academic schools, will serve as the keynote speakers during the 2007 Academic Convocation. Convocation is the celebration of Cameron’s dedication to academic excellence. The event, which is highlighted by musical performances and colorful pageantry, will take place at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 28, at the Fine Arts Courtyard and is open to the public. “Convocation is one of Cameron’s most time-honored traditions,” said John McArthur, Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Cameron students are the focus of the event which is dedicated to highlighting their academic achievements and successes during the past year.” Following tradition, an academic procession of faculty and staff in academic regalia will arrive behind a banner depicting their respective disciplines. The banners are proudly carried by honor students selected from each discipline. CU’s student body is always the focal point of Convocation. Honors and scholarship students will receive special recognition for their academic achievements. -more- Convocation, ADD ONE Below are brief biographies of each of the student speakers: Chris Zerzavy – School of Business Chris Zerzavy is a native of Lawton, and represents students in the School of Business. Chris graduated from Eisenhower High School and is attending Cameron University on a PLUS scholarship. He is a member of Chi Alpha and has been inducted into Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. Chris was selected for the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP), an internship program through Fort Sill, and has worked as a management analyst in the Manpower and Agreements Division of the Resource Management Office. Chris said Cameron University has offered him a second-to-none education and provided him with lifelong friends, cherished memories and a promising future. Annie Gomez – School of Education & Behavioral Sciences/Graduate Studies Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Annie Gomez serves as the student representative from the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences and Cameron’s Office of Graduate Studies. Gomez left her home country with her husband and two daughters and moved to New York where she completed an associate’s degree in paralegal studies at The City University of New York’s (CUNY) Bronx Community College. She then graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in English literature and minor in political science from CUNY’s Herbert H. Lehman College. Next, it was on to Cameron University for Gomez where she is working toward her master’s degree in behavioral sciences. Gomez said her highest goal in life is to help children and young adults live healthier, happier lives. Ann Morris – School of Liberal Arts Cameron junior Ann Morris represents the School of Liberal Arts. Ann graduated from Eisenhower High School in 2005. She is a studio art major with a concentration in graphic design. Ann enjoys playing the piano and guitar and studying up on the latest trends in fashion and music. A PLUS and McMahon Scholar, Ann works on campus in the Office of Student Activities. She is co-chair of the Programming Activities Council. Ann said she enjoys getting involved on campus because it connects her with other students and Cameron faculty and staff. Andrea L. Brock – School of Science & Technology Representing the School of Science and Technology is Andrea L. Brock. Andrea is majoring in chemistry with a minor in biology. With plans to graduate in May, Andrea has spent much of her time working with Cameron’s science faculty on research projects. Upon graduation from Cameron, her goal is to be accepted into a health professional school. In addition to her research, Andrea has participated in three clinicals, shadowing doctors and nurses in the Lawton area.
