Cameron’s 2007 commencement address
to be delivered by General Bryan Brown
Cameron University graduates will have the unique opportunity to hear from one of Cameron’s very own as
General Bryan Brown delivers the commencement address at this year’s ceremony. The University’s
annual commencement ceremony will honor approximately 1,000 graduates this year. The event is set to
take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Cameron Stadium in Lawton. The public is invited to attend.
Brown is currently the four star Commanding General of the United States Special Operations Command,
MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. USSOCOM is responsible for all Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps
Special Operations Forces and is the Department of Defense’s lead command for planning and
synchronizing the global war on terrorism.
“Cameron University is proud to claim General Brown as a graduate,” said Ross. “We are honored by his
return to campus to share his wisdom with our graduates and join in our excitement as we celebrate this
significant occasion in the lives of our graduating students.”
Brown graduated from Cameron with a bachelor’s degree in history while attending the Field Artillery
Advanced Course at Fort Sill. While attending Cameron, he was named to the President’s and Dean’s
Honor Rolls and participated in intramural athletics.

foundation for my lifetime of serving in our nation’s military,” said Brown. “In today’s challenging
international environment, the knowledge of cultural histories is essential. We cannot afford to disregard
the long history of our nation and the histories of the nations we are interacting with on so many different
levels – military, economic, and diplomatic.”
Brown’s address will be a highlight of the ceremony as he shares his wealth of knowledge and world
experience with the 2007 graduates as they prepare to face the challenges of life in the professional world.
“I probably remember more about the intramural program than I do some of my coursework,” Brown said
jokingly. “However, everything I experienced at Cameron was focused on excellence. The growth and
knowledge I gained there was about much more than just history. My Cameron experience was
exceptional. The faculty was first rate. I left Cameron with a lifelong desire to keep learning.”
Brown’s military career began in 1967 on a Special Forces “A Team.” After completion of Officer Candidate
School, he attended Army Flight School. Brown has served at all levels of command and staff including
three company commands and two battalion commands.
Brown was recently inducted into the Fort Sill Field Artillery Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame. His
other awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished
Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal and the Air Medal with “V” Device. He also wears the Special Forces Tab,
Master Army Aviator Badge, Military Free Fall Parachute Badge and the Air Assault Badge. Brown is also
a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
The commencement exercises will be held in the evening to accommodate new features in the ceremony.
To add a special new tradition, this year’s event will conclude with a fireworks display for all to enjoy.
