For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Aug. 29, 2005 Leadership Luncheon with Coach K yields CU’s inaugural President’s Distinguished Scholarship President Cindy Ross announces the establishment of Cameron University’s first President’s Distinguished Scholarship (PDS). The scholarship will be Cameron’s most prestigious academic scholarship. The scholarship was funded by a leadership seminar featuring Duke Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski. Forged through 30 years of leadership experience, Krzyzewski has created a legacy of unparalleled success in collegiate athletics and leadership development. Krzyzewski aided Cameron University’s continued quest to build a tradition of excellence by presenting a Leadership Forum Luncheon last week. The event drew more than 400 local, state and regional business people to Lawton and raised about $70,000 for Cameron University. At the conclusion of the event, President Ross announced that Cameron University’s inaugural President’s Distinguished Scholarship (PDS) will be named the Mike and Mickie Krzyzewski President’s Distinguished Scholarship, in recognition of the role the couple played in the event. “My sincere thanks go out to Mike and Mickie Krzyzewski,” said President Cindy Ross. “Their efforts and graciousness have forever impacted Cameron University. At Cameron, we are committed to changing lives one student at a time, and the Mike and Mickie Krzyzewski President’s Distinguished Scholarship will benefit Cameron University’s students for generations to come.” The PDS will be awarded to an incoming freshman student, who participates in the Cameron’s newlydeveloped Honors Program. The scholarship may be renewed for up to four years. (over) pds, ADD ONE Cameron’s first PDS will be funded through the earnings from a permanent endowment established using the proceeds from the event. A contribution of $25,000 or more is required to establish a President’s Distinguished Scholarship.
