CU professor set to perform faculty recital; follow-up performance slated for Wichita Falls

The Cameron University School of Liberal Arts will sponsor Mr. John Moots’ faculty recital at 8 p.m.,

Thursday, Aug. 25, in the Cameron University Theatre, located on CU’s main campus in Lawton.

Moots, who will be performing on the trumpet, will be accompanied by Dr. Donald E. Maxwell, tenor vocalist, and Dr. Ruth Morrow on piano. The trio will take center stage for a second performance at the

Midwestern State University faculty recital at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Aiken Auditorium in Wichita

Falls.

Both performances will feature a variety of musical pieces, including Henry Purcell’s Sound the Trumpet,

Silent Noon by Ralph Vaughn Williams, and several selections by Robert Schumann.

John Moots has been a member of the Cameron University music faculty since 1974, and has served since that time in the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra, where he is the principal trumpet and brass section leader.

Through his career, Moots has performed with Ella Fitzgerald, Van Cliburn, Doc Severinsen, and Jack

Benny, among many others. Moots’ education includes graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma, and a Master of Music Education and Bachelor of Music Education from Wichita State University in Wichita,

Kan. He also studied at the Aspen Music School in Aspen, Colo.

Dr. Donald E. Maxwell is currently Professor of Voice at Midwestern State University, having served as a faculty member for 34 years after teaching at Cameron for two years. He has directed more than 25 operas during his tenure at MSU.

Dr. Ruth E. Morrow is the current Dolores P. Bolin and D. Phil and Aurora S. Bolin Chair of Piano at

Midwestern. She is also the Chair of the Department of Music. She holds degrees from Indiana University, the Eastman School of Music and Whitman College.

General admission tickets for the faculty recital are $6. Tickets for senior citizens, military personnel and students are $4.
