For Immediate Release– Lawton, OK, Aug. 3, 2004
(NOTE: A media release was distributed to newspapers today by the Oklahoma Higher Education Council
of Oklahoma. This is a version of that release, with Cameron details included.)
Cameron to be featured on new OETA TV show
Cameron University will be included in a new television show that highlights the people, programs and
events at Oklahoma’s colleges and universities. “Candid Campus,” which is actually a revived version of a
public television series that aired in the 1970s and 1980s, will return to the airwaves Sept. 13.
“Candid Campus” will air at 10 p.m. Monday nights on OETA, Oklahoma’s public television network. The
20-episode series will be produced by the Higher Education Alumni Council of Oklahoma (HEACO), an
organization of supporters of the state’s colleges and universities. Oklahoma State University Educational
Television Services is filming the series.
“Candid Campus” will provide the public with a heightened awareness of higher education and acquaint the
public with various programs of specific institutions, according to HEACO president Dr. Carlos E. Johnson.
Each episode of “Candid Campus” will be organized thematically, according to Dr. Kathryn Jones,
HEACO’s executive director and director of the series. Among these themes are outstanding faculty, health
professions, economic development, unique degree programs, college/community partnerships, services to
students, technology, business/industry partnerships, physical plant renovations and special programs for
students.
A crew from the show was on Cameron’s campus last week filming interviews and other visuals for
upcoming episodes. Among the CU-related pieces to air in the months ahead are features on the Center
(over)
candid campus, ADD ONE
for Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurial Studies and foreign languages professor and children’s
author Dr. George Stanley, as well as a look at the university’s biomedical research through a National
Institutes of Health grant.
Broadcast dates have not yet been announced for the three Cameron features.
Lance Ward and Gwin Faulconer-Lippert will serve as host and reporter, respectively, of the series.
Ward is former secretary of the Oklahoma State Election Board and secretary of the Oklahoma Senate. He
also served as an administrative assistant to the President Pro Tempore of the Oklahoma Senate and was
assistant to the president and director of public information at Oklahoma City Community College.
“Candid Campus” originally aired during Ward’s tenure as HEACO’s executive director.
Faulconer-Lippert, a professor of mass media communications, joined Oklahoma City Community College’s
faculty in 1988. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s in adult, community and higher
education from the University of Oklahoma. She was the first two-year college president of the Oklahoma
Broadcast Education Association and has served on the board of the Oklahoma Association of
Broadcasters.
Faulconer-Lippert has appeared on-air on KTOK-AM and OETA for more than 20 years and was one of the
hosts of the original “Candid Campus.” Since 2000, she has hosted the "Cash for College" special on
OETA for the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
Among her teaching awards are the OCCC President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, a faculty
fellowship from the National Association for Television Program Executives and a master teacher award
from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development.
