Abbey Announcements COPLAC applications have been extended for one week. To date, SSHS has no applicants. If you are interested in attending, please contact Sandra Murchio. Grants Challenge – There is a $1000 incentive to develop a research grant proposal. Proposals should be submitted to Dean Rosenberg and if appropriate, will be sent to the Grants Office. The Curriculum Committee has been discussing interdisciplinarity. It is suggested this should be a topic for an upcoming SSHS retreat. The November 19th Unit Council meeting is canceled. The following SSHS faculty have applied for sabbaticals and were unanimously approved: Jillian Weiss Kristin Kenneavy Mark Howenstein Maria Krupin and Provost Beth Barnett met with Dean Rosenberg about lab and insurance fees applied to certain SSHS courses. The State of New Jersey has been auditing these fees at all the state colleges. Conveners have been asked to justify the fees. Joe Cataliotti presented a proposal to offer a Neuroscience Minor Program. The minor was unanimously approved. Fred Newman of Advisement explained the first-year student course registration worksheet and advisement procedure for spring course registration. He also indicated that there will be mandatory advisement for all transfer students. Aaron Lorenz, a member of the Connect Advisory Board, explained the process and the advantages of identifying at-risk students more easily. Writing Across the Curriculum - Frances Shapiro-Skrobe reminded faculty that the deadline for submitting courses as writing intensive is October 15 th. Students need to complete 3 WI courses through the major and/or school core. Convening groups should review their course offerings to make sure enough courses carry this designation. TLTR – Jackie Braun reminded faculty that grants are available to bring technology into the classroom. Mia Serban advised that there will be Advising Training in the FRC on October 15 th. Kim Lorber, the SSHS FAEC representative, announced that the committee is requesting that faculty be advised sooner about upcoming Open Houses, Transfer Orientation, etc. Kim also needs to hear from each faculty member as to who is on what All College and Unit committee. The next SCOTUS Series presentation will be on Thursday, October 16th from 1-2PM. The topic is Children’s Rights.
