Unit Council Minutes
November 2, 2011
Dean Chakrin called the meeting to order at 11:30AM
1.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the October 19 meeting were approved.
2.
INTELLECTUAL CONTRIBUTIONS
Dean Chakrin reported on intellectual contributions since the October 19 Unit
Council meeting.
3.
CEC REQUIREMENTS FOR SYLLABI
Ed Petkus distributed the Design Team’s CEC Syllabus Guidelines for Winter
2012 on and thereafter. Faculty were encouraged to adhere to these guidelines.
4.
FACULTY RESEARCH – Research, Planning and Review Committee
Alex Olbrecht presented the RPRC’s ASB Research Support Plan. After some
revisions are made the Unit Council will vote on the plan.
5.
FACULTY RESEARCH SYMPOSIA – RPRC
Lex Smith announced that the RPRC will be conducting a survey on faculty
research activity and interest in the monthly research symposia. The data will be
presented at the RPRC meeting on December 7.
6.
TAP – T. Hutchins and J. Woodley
Jim Woodley presented the proposed changes to the Integration rubric. The Unit
Council voted to approve these changes. He then presented TAP’s proposed
changes to the numbering system for all rubrics. TAP will make a
recommendation and the Unit Council will vote on it at the next meeting.
7.
FAEC – A. Olbrecht
Items of discussion included:
 Possibility of suspending majors with 30 students or less
 Union’s fight over suspension of sabbaticals
 Replacement of Alex Olbrecht for FAEC; Unit Council will elect a new rep
at the Nov. 30 meeting
8.
Announcements
Dean Chakrin reported on the MBA Partners Program.
Rita Shea VanFossen announced that the Raciti Memorial Lecture, featuring
author Cathleen Banko, will take place on Monday, November 21 at 6:30pm in
the Pavilion

Murry Sabrin announced the American Democracy Project will host a forum on
Occupy Wall Street on November 30.
Kathryn Yeaton, ASB rep for the All-College Assessment Committee, reported
that the committee has been working to ensure all programs are on target for
Assessment.
