Unit Council Minutes
April 25, 2012
Dean Chakrin called the meeting to order at 1:00 PM.
1.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the April 4, 2012 meeting were approved.
2.
DEAN’S ANNOUNCEMENTS
The AACSB reaccreditation visit will occur in Fall 2015/2016.
3.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
John Thomas, Director of the Business Certificate Program, provided an update on
the success and future goals of the program.
4.
ALL-COLLEGE AND UNIT COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS
Jim Woodley and Tim Burns were elected to the ASB Reappointment and Tenure
Committee.
Bill Frech and Stephen Klein were elected to the ASB Promotion/Career Development
Committee
Jim Woodley will be chairing the ASB Assessment subcommittee of TAP.
Yuan Gao was elected as the new rep for ARC.
Desi Budeva, Rick Nunez, and Xiaoyu Wu volunteered for the Institutional Review
Board.
5.
ARC – T. Burns
New courses and changes to existing courses must be submitted by October 15, 2012 in
order to be in the 2013 catalog.
Stephen Klein announced that the name of the Information Systems major is being
changed to Information Technology Management. The convening group has been
revitalizing courses to reflect this change and a new curriculum will be in place by 2013.
6.
FAEC – A. Olbrecht
A final version of the dean’s survey will be voted on at the May conference.
The proposal for on-line student evaluations was voted down and the procedure remains
the same.
7.
TAP – J. Woodley
The Unit Council voted to make a change to the Ethical Considerations rubric.
8.
TRADING LAB CONTEST WINNERS
Dean Chakrin introduced the two top finishers in the Spring 2012 Trading Lab Contest,
“Wizard of Wall Street”: Students Bennet Zamani (1st place ) and John Goode (2nd
place). The students shared their strategies with the UC and were presented with cash
prizes.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Dean Chakrin and Ed Petkus discussed the plan for a unified CEC within ASB that
would focus on giving students certain career management skills.
Fall 2012 book orders are overdue and should be submitted as soon as possible.
Honors Convocation is at 3pm today in Friends Hall.
Susan Eisner announced that student Clifton Shambry was accepted into Columbia
University.
Murray Sabrin will be debating the Welfare State with Mitch Kahn this Thursday, April 26
at 6pm in ASB 136.
