Program Goals:
Art Education Goals:
1. Ensure students are engaged in quality experiences in a variety of art disciplines, studio production, art history, art criticism and theory, and
aesthetics; Experiences include courses in foreign language and elective credits used to obtain a minor.
2. Increase international content, focus and experience.
3. Have a direct positive impact on the local and extended community.
4. Increase the numbers and diversity of students seeking the BA/BFA degree in Art.
5. Increase support for all faculty to assist with their professional development.
Common MAEd Goals:
1. Enable teachers to achieve advanced level licensure in North Carolina.
2. Provide a comprehensive curriculum emphasizing instructional expertise, knowledge of learners, research expertise, connecting subject
matter and learners, and professional development and leadership.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Art Education Learning Outcomes:
1. Think critically/creatively (Goal 1)
2. Communicate effectively (Goal 1)
3. Work effectively in teams (Goal 1)
4. Share talents with the community (Goal 1)
5. Understand art in an international context (Goal 2)
6. Engage the immediate community, including assisting local artists and artisans with contemporary experiences. (Goal 3)
7. Work with faculty to enhance opportunities for K-12 children in the region to have significant studio art and museum experiences (Goal 3)

1. Apply theoretical, philosophical and research bases for educational practice in K-12 classrooms to improve student learning.
2. Plan, implement and evaluate instruction that is rigorous, coherent and consistent with a well-developed theoretical and philosophical stance
and with best practices emerging from educational research.
