Western Carolina University Program Assessment Plan Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Entrepreneurship Major College of Business Assessment Plan for 2006 - 2007 Primary Contact Name/Info: Dr. Roger Lirely, Department Chair Accounting, Finance and Entrepreneurship Department College of Business Program Mission Statement: The mission of the undergraduate entrepreneurship program is to teach students to create and operate a business in a dynamic, complex, and ever changing global environment through a community of scholarship that provides a forum for examining principles, needs, and issues relating to small and developing businesses. The program will provide a broad overview of the role of entrepreneurship in society as well as the skills necessary for a person to be entrepreneurial either in starting a new venture or in creating new opportunities within an existing enterprise. Program Goals/Objectives: The undergraduate entrepreneurship major prepares students with the skills necessary to evaluate a new business idea, create a new business to exploit the opportunity, and to grow the business to a sustainable state. Student Learning Objectives Outcome #2 – Students will know how to create and maintain an ethical culture within a new business. Curricular and/or Co-Curricular Experiences Students in ENT 450 will create a hypothetical company via a computer simulation, which requires the use of accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, and other business functions. The student teams compete against each other in the application of their business acumen and are objectively scored on their relative performance. Students in ENT 350 will be required to create an employee handbook which includes company ethical standards. Outcome #3 – Students will understand the process of evaluating a new business concept. In ENT 201, ENT 205, and ENT 301 students will develop a business model to be evaluated in terms of concept viability.
