Music has helped define the uniqueness and distinction of Puget Sound since 1893, and the Adelphians have been central to bringing recognition and renown to our program. Founded in 1932 the choir is one of the longest standing and most beloved organizations in the history of the university. For more than 80 years, it has given exceptional performances throughout the Pacific Northwest. It is one of the foundations of a music program that offers multiple degrees in music, a music minor, open ensemble auditions for all university students, and lessons by specialists on all standard instruments and voices. Paul Caldwell/Sean Ivory ADELPHIAN CONCERT CHOIR Adelphian Concert Choir, founded in 1932, is one of four choral organizations in the School of Music at University of Puget Sound. Members of the choir are all undergraduate students selected through audition. Approximately half are music majors. The Adelphians have appeared by invitation at the state, regional, and national conventions of both American Choral Director’s Association and Music Educator’s National Conference, and consistently receive the highest acclaim for their repertoire, interpretation, and musicianship. In addition to their numerous convention appearances, they have appeared as guest artists with Northwest Sinfonietta, Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, Tacoma Concert Band, and Tacoma City Ballet, Inc. They have presented several Pacific Northwest Intermission and United States premiere performances of contemporary choral works by composers from Canada, Germany, and the United States. IV.
