Trachelle Taylor 4/25/13 P01 Contextual Factors ti Community and School Factors: Hempstead lementary is within Hempstead ndependent School District which is located in Hempstead, TX. Its physical address is 1340 13 th % 0. Hempstead, TX 77445 According to the 2010-2011 AEIS reports 77.9% of the students are considered economically disadvantaged, 31.4% have limited English proficiency, and 54.7% are considered at risk. The ethnicity of the student body is: 24.1% White, 47.9% Hispanic, 25.2% African American, 3% Asian/ Pacific Islander, and 2% for two or more races. Classroom Factors: Wv)03\-- Ockki _sIsu jtk 7 The classroom has 6 rectangle tables and above the tables hanging from (<) the ceiling are green station mbers. The tables are all positioned so that no child is unable to see the smart board. Around the classroom there was abundance of science artifacts, like a skeleton dressed in regular clothes by the front and in the front above the smart board lays a bobcat's fur. As you walk into the classroom the teacher has the objectives and TEKS for the lesson on the right side of the wall. The children transition every 7 minutes to go to a new station. The teacher will say stop, give me five, clean up, now switch and repeat this every seven minutes. The class is only held for fifty minutes when the period is up students will form a line and walk in the hall in a single file line. If for any reason a student has forgotten how to walk in the hall the rules are posted above the door. Trachelle Taylor 4/25/13 P01 Student Characteristics: The class analyzed at observation was a science lab. Therefore I was able to see all the students who attend k-5.with the smaller children there is an aid who stays in the classroom to help monitor and make sure the students stay on task. Majority of the Itime the students followed instruction and worked well together. The teacher had center 6.0' -s% is p., '1 -,,`- (-11uI well oriented for that grade level. While watching the students I feel like Piaget theory ,'A was implanted in this classroom. Students were hands on and applying the information to everyday life. OCC- Cut2 A-LaizA, J-SZO;11i A I Instructional Implications: In response with over half of the student body being considered economically disadvantaged, the state funds majority of the school expenses. From my (Secent experience and talking with students they have told me ty(t they learn better in U stations. Also)the teacher has proof tlatifthis technique is effective due to previous science 65 '4cores on the TAKS test.
