LIBERAL STUDIES OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
FEBRUARY 22, 2000
Members Present: Fred Hinson, Will Peebles, Elizabeth Addison, John Habel, Scott Philyaw,
Dana Edge, Gary Smith, Debra Burke, Robert Vartabedian.
Members Absent: Nory Prochaska
Fred Hinson called the meeting to order at 12:40 p.m. The Committee was informed that all
department heads were requested by an announcement and a memo to inform their faculty to
review the four documents on the Liberal Studies Web Page.
There was discussion of Course Proposal forms. Some suggestions from the English
Department were considered and approved. The documents will be reviewed and posted on
the web with the revisions.
John Habel, Scott Philyaw, and Fred Hinson attended the First-Year Experience Conference in
Columbia, SC and shared information about Freshman Seminars and Learning Communities
with the Committee.
The next meeting will be on February 24, 2000 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. in the Rogers Room of
the University Center.
The meeting adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
