Club Sport Tier Structure
2015-‐2016
The Club Sport program utilizes a tier system to identify, accommodate and meet the needs of a diverse group of social, recreational, and competitive clubs. This tier system defines programmatic, financial, and operational expectations for clubs. All clubs, regardless of tier, must be a Registered Student Organization. The Office of Leadership and Student Involvement, as well as Campus Recreation & Wellness, reserves the right to evaluate and reclassify clubs at any point throughout an academic year. Clubs are defined as follows:
Social/Instructional
The Social/Instructional Tier includes all sport or recreationally based student organizations that come together as a club based on a common interest and for the desire to practice/instruct a sport or recreational activity. These clubs are unable to compete. Social/Recreational clubs are housed under the Office of Leadership and Student Involvement as a Registered Student Organization.
They follow that offices guidelines.
Conditional
The Conditional Tier includes all first year clubs, clubs that are on probation, or clubs that didn’t meet the recreational tier requirement the previous year. Clubs may only stay in conditional for one year during which time they must meet all requirements of the Club Sport program, that tier and as a Registered Student Organization. Failure to meet all conditional requirements will drop
the club to a social/instructional status the following year.
Recreational
Recreational Tier includes those club sports that choose to compete on a recreational or local level
but may not join or participate in a national/regional governing body/league
Competitive 1
The Competitive 1 Tier includes those club sports that choose to compete more actively at the local/regional level and may or may not join or participate in a national/regional governing body/league
Competitive 2
The Competitive 2 Tier includes those club sports who are highly active and choose to compete at a regional or national level and who are a member of a national or regional sports affiliate or
governing body.
Competition: Identified as days of competition. So if your team plays two games in one day, its one day of competition. Applies to both team and individual based clubs.
Community Service is defined as any volunteer work (physical and/or giving of time) that is being conducted by members of our organization. *Project itself should be at least 2 hours in length.
Philanthropy is defined as where MONEY is being raised for a charitable organization (your organization or for any other organization). Does not count as community service.
