Purpose of the committee:
The purpose of the LACCD ADA Advisory Committee is to provide feedback to
the District related to its ADA Transition and Self Evaluations including those
completed for each of the nine college campuses. This important feedback
will help finalize the plans prior to LACCD Board approval. The goal will be to
provide a college system with Universal Design considered in all facility
planning and designing and an integrated work and classroom system that
allows students and employees to participate.
Initial meetings will be held on a quarterly basis with subcommittees
meeting on a more frequent basis as needed. As plans are finalized,
meetings will be held on a semi-annual basis.
The ongoing purpose of the committee will be to assist the District with
feedback on the status of the plans and new programs/systems as they are
developed and incorporated into the Districts everyday business and to bring
concerns about accessibility issues that are affecting them or their clients.
II.
Overview of the ADA and its requirements.
Ms. Kuntzelman gave a general overview of the history of disability law leading up to
the ADA Amendment Act of 2010 (ADAA). She also covered the requirements under
Title II of the ADA for a governmental entity to have an ADA compliant procedures;
designate a person who is responsible for overseeing Title II compliance; and a
transition plan and self-evaluation. The ADAA triggered the need for an updated
plan to address implementation of improvements required under the new and
expanded rules.

commitments. The committee will look at this document prior to the next meeting
for an in-depth discussion.
IV.
ADA Accommodation Request Process and review of the District’s new ADA website.
The group requested the name of the link to the District’s ADA website be titled
“Disability Access.” They suggested that an additional link that is the universal
accessibility sign be available so that it is easy for the public, students and
employees to find the new site. A link for student’s with disability to request and
accommodation should be added. A larger font should be used on the “Public
Accommodation Requests” page for ease of reading for low vision users. A link for
employee accommodation requests will be added and put as “under construction”
until the process and forms have been approved. A link to California title 5 and
Section 504 should be added to the “Useful Links” page. The committee will send
any other suggestions for links to Mardy Kuntzelman prior to the next meeting.
